The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Kharitonov moves into the clinch. Kharitonov misses with a body punch.
Romo tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Kharitonov avoids it. Kharitonov misses with a hook from the clinch. Romo lands with a short punch from the clinch.

Romo misses with a knee to the head. Kharitonov has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance. Romo struggles to land a body shot inside as Kharitonov controls his hands.
Kharitonov tries to work over Romo's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target. Romo connects with a nasty looking knee right to Kharitonov's face.

Kharitonov swings wildly with an uppercut but Romo uses good head movement to avoid it. Kharitonov misses with a body punch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Kneeeeees! The crowd are calling for knees to the body. Romo obliges. Kharitonov is breathing heavily. Kharitonov tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage. We've been informed that Romo has been sparring a lot of Muay Thai in the buildup to this fight so let's see if that has an impact on the result. Kharitonov working aggressively here.
A head punch blocked on the inside by Romo. Kharitonov lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards. Romo throws a knee to the head but misses.
That's one minute gone in the round. Romo throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Kharitonovs head. Romo prevents a body shot from Kharitonov. An uppercut to the body lands inside from Kharitonov. Kharitonov tries to throw a body punch but Romo avoids it by throwing Kharitonov back against the cage. A short left from Romo. Romo lands a knee to the head.

Romo lands a nice uppercut. Kharitonov goes for a body shot but it's blocked.

Romo lands with a short head shot on the inside. Romo has Kharitonov pressed up against the cage in a tight Thai clinch. Kharitonov is arching his back, trying to avoid the knees but a big one sneaks through from Romo - that's hurt Kharitonov badly! Oh, another knee lands and Kharitonov is covering up! The referee steps in to save him - possibly a bit early but Kharitonov doesn't seem to be complaining.
