Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Homero Cavalcante (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Viva Marquez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Homero Cavalcante!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Viva Marquez!
The judges for this bout are Mauricio Rocha, Paulo Santos and Daniel Cesar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Cavalcante scores with a takedown into Marquez's guard.
Cavalcante wants to control from the top but Marquez keeps moving.
Cavalcante looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Cavalcante looking to sit in guard and control but Marquez gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Cavalcante pulls Marquez in to control the position.

Cavalcante is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Marquez is aware though and is defending well.

Marquez postures up in Cavalcante's guard and throws a big left but Cavalcante blocks it.
Cavalcante looking to hit a scissor sweep but Marquez is one step ahead there.
Marquez working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

Cavalcante controls Marquez momentarily but Marquez frees himself.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Cavalcante regains half guard.
Marquez is taking a breather. Cavalcante says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Marquez is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Cavalcante defends it well.
Cavalcante tries to roll over but Marquez keeps him under control.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Cavalcante throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Marquez was covering up waiting for the punch and Cavalcante finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Cavalcante is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Marquez wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

Cavalcante closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Marquez quickly recovers to half guard.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Marquez lands a couple of good shots and Cavalcante has given up his back, trying to escape the position!
Cavalcante is very frustrated here, being controlled quite effectively by Marquez.

Cavalcante is in a bad position with Marquez working for a choke. Cavalcante manages to spin nicely into guard and the danger is over for the moment.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Marquez manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Cavalcante manages to get himself to full guard.

Viva Marquez showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Marquez is trying to drag Cavalcante to the mat but Cavalcante just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Cavalcante prevents a takedown attempt there.
Marquez goes for a takedown attempt but Cavalcante pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Cavalcante looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Homero Cavalcante has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Viva Marquez.

Cavalcante pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Cavalcante wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch.

Cavalcante feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

Cavalcante throws an elbow that misses. Marquez uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Cavalcante's guard. Nice move by Marquez!

Well Cavalcante has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
