Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
7 - 4 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Peter Parker! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Gabel McStravick! The judges for this bout are Santiago Holmes, Bart Greer and Daniel Franklin.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Parker moves into the clinch. Parker has hold of one of McStravick's legs. McStravick is fighting the takedown attempt but Parker gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard. Parker makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard. McStravick can't keep his opponent in guard - Parker advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount. Parker looks to score some points with some ground and pound. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Parker is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. Parker thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Parker stalling. Parker is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Parker is nestled in close to McStravick, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure. Parker controlling the action here. McStravick is trying to stand.
McStravick looks winded! Parker takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists. Parker drops an elbow to the side of McStravick's head. Parker sitting and controlling from the half guard. McStravick won't allow Parker to pass to mount. McStravick wants to get back to his feet.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Parker slows the pace down in half guard. Parker wants to work for an arm triangle but McStravick is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Parker is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Parker thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed McStravick's head. Parker seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime. McStravick on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound. Parker trying to pass the guard but McStravick defending well.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Parker winds up and cracks McStravick with a swinging punch to the side of the head. Parker takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists. Parker is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound. Still in half guard, Parker seems content to control. Parker wants to pass to mount but McStravick is defending the position. Parker drops an elbow to the side of McStravick's head. Nice strikes from Parker there. McStravick has hold of Parker's hands but Parker slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow. McStravick is in trouble now - Parker has advanced to mount! Parker working away from the top, dropping strikes.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The referee warns McStravick that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Parker trying to control but he's not successful this time. McStravick taking shots to the head.
McStravick is rocked! Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Parker has hold of McStravick's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and McStravick manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Parker lands a nice shot to the head. McStravick is still in real trouble! Can Parker finish him? BOOM! Parker connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Parker scoring with strikes but McStravick is staying in there. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Parker lands a big elbow - McStravick is in trouble! More strikes from the mount and McStravick is forced to tap out!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Strikes). Peter Parker! Peter Parker retains his lightweight title! Peter Parker really struggled to get his t-shirt on before his hand was raised. Making sure that Vikai Gear logo gets some air time is pretty tricky when you're all sweaty.
