PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Brandon Jacobi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gabriel Stark (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Stark is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Master of puppets. Gabriel Stark will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Brandon Jacobi!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Gabriel Stark!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Tiny Johnson and Wesley Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Stark moves into range and clinches up with Jacobi.

Jacobi manages to break the clinch.
Jacobi will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Stark throws a one two combo.
Jacobi throws a series of punches but Stark avoids them all with ease.

Stark closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Stark fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Stark is trying to break free.
Jacobi is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Stark gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Stark is trying to drag Jacobi to the mat but Jacobi just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Jacobi misses with a takedown attempt - Stark sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Jacobi is breathing heavily.
Stark shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Jacobi sprawls well. Jacobi wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Stark gets slowly back to his feet.
Jacobi seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter.
Stark throws a right hand that Jacobi ducks under and follows up with a left that Jacobi also avoids with ease.

Jacobi keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Stark's efforts to push away.

Jacobi jumps guard and drags Stark to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Stark wanted to stand there but Jacobi had control of the position.

Stark has closed the distance and engaged Jacobi in a clinch.

Stark manages to break the clinch.

Jacobi throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Stark tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Jacobi is in Stark's guard.

Stark has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. Jacobi is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position.
Stark tries to pull guard but Jacobi holds him up against the cage and eventually Stark drops back down to his feet.

Jacobi is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.
Stark tries to pull guard but Jacobi forces him back to his feet, against the cage.

Jacobi tightens his grip and picks Stark up, before dumping him to the ground. Stark manages to land in guard.

Stark striking off his back but it's not causing Jacobi any problems.

Stark manages to escape and get back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Gabriel Stark dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Jacobi looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Stark is fending him off so far but Jacobi persists. Nope, Stark circles away and we're back to standing.
Stark is loading up here, looking for a big counter of his own.
Jacobi takes a shot right to the bread basket.

Jacobi gets tackled into the cage by Stark. Stark maintains the clinch.
Stark is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Jacobi is keeping busy.
Stark has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Jacobi accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Stark wants to stand but Jacobi is controlling the position.
Stark keeping moving, preventing Jacobi from controlling successfully.
Jacobi sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Stark's guard.
Jacobi thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Stark trying to hold on to Jacobi's head to control him but Jacobi postures up.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Stark moves into range and clinches up with Jacobi.
Jacobi jumps guard but Stark stands there with Jacobi around his waist. Jacobi gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Stark wants to break free but Jacobi has control.

Jacobi breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Jacobi blocks a head kick by Stark.

Jacobi jumps guard but Stark turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.

Jacobi has Stark pressed against the cage, preventing Stark from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Stark jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Jacobi walks away with a smile on his face. Stark gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
A left and a right from Stark both land. Nice combination.

Stark tries to pull guard but Jacobi holds him up against the cage and eventually Stark drops back down to his feet.
Gabriel Stark seems to be working more effectively in the clinch in the fight so far.

Stark is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Stark wants to stand but Jacobi is controlling his posture from full guard.
Stark postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Jacobi can't keep his opponent in guard - Stark advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Jacobi is trying to get back to full guard.

Stark seems to be looking for submissions.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Stark stalling away here and it's allowed Jacobi to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Gabriel Stark will probably get the nod - 10:9.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!



Jacobi fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Stark, pushing him back against the cage.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Stark is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Jacobi is just riding it out for now. Stark eventually gives up the hold.
Jacobi knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Stark on the ground.
Jacobi is not content to let Stark control the position.

Stark stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Jacobi moves forwards but Stark connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Jacobi slips a jab and a cross from Stark.
Jacobi tries to clinch but Stark moves out of range.
Stark fails to land with a series of punches.
The fight stays on the outside here - Jacobi looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Sloppy strikes from Stark. Those never looked like landing.
Stark takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Jacobi closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Stark to the mat! Stark manages to get full guard.

Stark is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Stark wants to stand and escape but Jacobi is having none of it.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Stark is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Stark shoots in for a double leg but Jacobi sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Stark clinches with his opponent.
Jacobi avoiding damage.
Jacobi drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Jacobi tightens his grip and picks Stark up, before dumping him to the ground. Stark manages to land in guard.
Gabriel Stark is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Jacobi postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Brandon Jacobi.
I think Stark has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
