Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Santos Mayer! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Spear Block ! The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Frank Antenori and .
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A momentary lapse in concentration from Mayer enables Block to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Mayer manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Mayer seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now. Block advances to half guard. Mayer is refusing to be controlled, as Block sits in half guard. Mayer is looking for a sweep. Block is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Mayer is trying to maintain the position but Block is very close to passing his half guard. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Block is nestled in close to Mayer, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure. Block trying to control from half guard but Mayer is working away. Mayer is trying to maintain the position but Block is very close to passing his half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Mayer misses with some strikes from the bottom.
Block is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. Block is keen to just control but Mayer is a slippery customer. We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace. Mayer moves into full guard.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
That's two minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. A slapping leg kick lands for Mayer.
Block showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Mayer.
Mayer throws a body kick but he was well out of range there. Block fails to land with a series of punches.
Block lands a nice hook to Mayer's body. Mayer takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes. Mayer is looking to take this fight into the clinch. Block closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Block is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Mayer knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. Block trying to control the action but Mayer is working from the bottom. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Mayer tries to bench press Block off him but Block keeps the position. Block controlling from side mount. Mayer can't do much from the bottom here.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Block tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Block has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! Block is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Mayer has escaped the position, nice work there. The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Block in side control, throwing shots but Mayer defends. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Spear Block dominated that round. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!
Mayer misses with an attempted mid kick.
Mayer closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage. Block has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Mayer regains guard immediately. Mayer looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Mayer will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Block pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Mayer is keeping the position for now. Mayer looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Block wants to control from the top but Mayer keeps moving. Block stays in close to Mayer's body and controls the position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Mayer controls Block momentarily but Block frees himself. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Block wants to pass the guard but Mayer is keeping the position. Block controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet. Mayer keeps Block at a distance using the push kick. Block misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Block throws a head kick but Mayer moves out of range.
Block has closed the distance and engaged Mayer in a clinch.
Mayer decides to pull guard. Block pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Mayer is keeping the position for now. Mayer is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Block controls from within his opponent's guard. Mayer working a defensive guard here.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Mayer keeping moving, preventing Block from controlling successfully. The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet. Mayer misses with a body kick. Block has been the more effective fighter overall so far. Mayer tries to sprawl but Block drives through with a takedown into half guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Block is trying to control the action in half guard but Mayer is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard. Mayer flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
Mayer avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Block . Block tries to stand and escape but Mayer actually recovers to full guard. Block wants to control from the top but Mayer keeps moving. Mayer controlling the position. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Block trying to control the position from guard on top but Mayer is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Spear Block showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!

Block missing with some ground and pound from the half guard. Block stops Mayer from getting back to his feet.

Block looks for the body kick but Mayer saw that one coming. Block circles away from the clinch attempt.
Block drives through with a takedown into Mayer's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position. Block takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Mayer looking to hit a scissor sweep but Block is one step ahead there. Block forces his way into half guard. Mayer blocking the ground and pound attempt from Block .
That's three minutes gone in the round. Block trying to advance position but Mayer counters by regaining guard. Block decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow. Mayer tries to clinch there but Block circles away.
The fight moves into the clinch position. Block is trying to push Mayer away but Mayer has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere. Block breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Mayer has not gone for a single takedown so far in this fight, which seems like a very strange tactic when you consider that he has the superior wrestling and BJJ. Mayer instigates a clinch. Mayer tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Block smiles and moves away.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Block drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. The strikes coming from Block are missing the target in this wave of attacks. Mayer tries to get back to half guard but can't. Block throwing strikes but missing, from side control. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Block is looking to take a break and control but Mayer is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Santos Mayer has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Spear Block is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight. Block slows the pace down.
And that's the end of the fight! Spear Block comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. Well Block has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
