Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Fernando Alves (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ragnar Hjelmslev (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Alves's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Rob Zombie - Scum of the earth . Hjelmslev has chosen I Touch Myself as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 17 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Fernando Alves!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Ragnar Hjelmslev!
The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, William Peck and Steve Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hjelmslev throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Alves sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Nice body kick there by Alves.
A looping hook to the body misses from Hjelmslev. Alves does a little dance to reset his feet.
Hjelmslev feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Alvess jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!

Alves drives through with a takedown into guard.
Alves postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Alves controls from within his opponent's guard.
Alves loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hjelmslev can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Alves controls the pace.
Hjelmslev wants to stand but Alves is controlling the position.

Alves stands and throws Hjelmslev's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Sloppy strikes there by Alves.
Hjelmslev looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Hjelmslev tries to get back to his feet but has found himself mounted instead. Damn, that's gotta suck.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Alves tries to control but Hjelmslev wriggling away.
Alves is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Hjelmslev is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Hjelmslev is trying desperately to improve position.

Hjelmslev's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.

Hjelmslev tries to reverse the position but Alves maintains control.

Alves wants to control but Hjelmslev has made it back to half guard. Nice work.
Alves has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Hjelmslev is defending against the submission attempts here by Alves.

Alves can't control as he wanted to and Hjelmslev manages to get the fight back to his half guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Alves takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Hjelmslev lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.

Alves is rocked!

Oh Alves is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!

And an attempted straight right on the counter from Hjelmslev! But no joy.
Alves seems to have got his legs back now.
Hjelmslev misses with a looping right.
Hjelmslev takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Alves bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Alves drops down looking for a counter takedown but Hjelmslev sprawls and moves away.

Hjelmslev takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Ragnar Hjelmslev is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Hjelmslev will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Alves avoids a lazy jab quite easily.

Alves throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Hjelmslev was covering up waiting for the punch and Alves finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Fernando Alves overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Alves wants to control from the top but Hjelmslev keeps moving.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Alves accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Alves stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Hjelmslev swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Hjelmslev might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.

Hjelmslev takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
Alves tries to bum rush Hjelmslev with a series of wild strikes but Hjelmslev uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Alves, as that shot connected.
Hjelmslev lands a really nice looking cross but Alves seems unphased.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Alves drops his hands momentarily and Hjelmslev takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.

It looks like Alves has been trying to sharpen up his punching technique, as it looks crisper than last time we saw him.

The crowd cheers as Alves lands an impressive looking overhand right. Hjelmslev doesn't seem phased though.

The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Alves throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Hjelmslev was covering up waiting for the punch and Alves finishes the takedown easily into guard.

That was a close second round but I would say that Fernando Alves will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Alves is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Hjelmslev can do to turn this around?

That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Hjelmslev crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Alves - the referee stops the clock and Hjelmslev gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Alves. Hjelmslev manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.

Fernando Alves showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Alves, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
