Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Sergio Sanchez! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Carl Grimes! The judges for this bout are Paul Aken, Patrick Alders and Aafke Stam.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Grimes tries to score a power double leg takedown but Sanchez sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Grimes somewhat. Grimes tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Sanchez half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range. Good work by Grimes as he checks the leg kick. Grimes fails to land the takedown. Grimes closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. Grimes is working for a submission of some sort.
Sanchez makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work! Grimes shoots in and drives through. Sanchez sprawls well. Sanchez throws a big counter combination but Grimes scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage. Sergio Sanchez has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Carl Grimes. Grimes misses with a takedown attempt letting Sanchez counter with a right hand. Sanchez definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight. Wow, both these guys are really going for it! This has been an exciting period of action! Grimes avoids the head kick by Sanchez.
Grimes shoots for a takedown but Sanchez saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Grimes is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Sanchez tries to land a front kick but Grimes steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed. Oooooh!!! Sanchez has knocked Grimes down with a huge combo! Sanchez steps away and waves a wobbly Grimes back to his feet! This one might not go much longer!
Grimes is rocked!
That's one minute gone in the round. Sanchez rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Grimes moves out of range and avoids them all easily. Grimes appeared to try and counter that last move with a leg kick. Grimes is still on wobbly legs! Can Sanchez finish him? Sanchez cracks Grimes with a nasty uppercut that draws ooohs from the crowd and sends Grimes tumbling backwards onto the mat. He tries to recover but Sanchez pounces and lands a hail of unanswered strikes that forces the referee to step in to end the fight! Grimes is not happy but he gave the referee no choice!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:09 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Sergio Sanchez!
