PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Bruce Lee (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Phil Brooks (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Phil Brooks will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Bruce Lee!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Phil Brooks!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Daniel Franklin and Stewart Dunkirk.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lee moves in looking to clinch but Brooks pushes him off.

Lee moves into range and clinches up with Brooks.

Lee breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Brooks throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Lee was covering up waiting for the punch and Brooks finishes the takedown easily into guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Lee is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Brooks is standing up over Lee. Lee looks to escape but Brooks dives into side control.
Lee might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Brooks thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Brooks tries to move into full mount but can't pass Lee's legs.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Brooks swings around for an armbar but Lee sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Brooks's guard.
Brooks is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Lee postures up in Brooks's guard and throws a big left but Brooks blocks it.
Lee won't allow Brooks to sweep him here.
Brooks is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Brooks lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Brooks stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Lee swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Lee is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Brooks is controlling him.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Lee uses the cage to get back to his feet.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Brooks.
Lee tries to counter with a takedown but Brooks is quick to defend against it.
Brooks takes a head kick and keeps coming.
Lee tries to clinch up but Brooks circles away and keeps his distance.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
A right-left combo lands from Lee.


Brooks is rocked!

Brooks looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Lee!
Lee wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Brooks tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Lee prevents Brooks from moving into mount.
Brooks passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Lee!
Lee is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.
Lee is controlling an arm, preventing Brooks from taking his back. Although keeping him in mount is no better to be honest.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Brooks is still trying to improve position.

Brooks looking to secure an arm triangle but Lee defends it well.
Lee is trying to get to the cage to help him get back to his feet.
Brooks wants to take Lee's back but he can't do it this time.
Lee is trying to get back to his feet but can't.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Phil Brooks dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Brooks shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Lee counters with a nice uppercut.
Brooks with a lazy takedown attempt
and Lee counters with a three punch combo that has Brooks backing up. Brooks nods at Lee to acknowledge the strikes.
Brooks tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Lee defends well and Brooks ends up having to push Lee into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Bruce Lee has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Phil Brooks.
Donk. Lee catches Brooks right on the button with a cross.
Brooks with a poor takedown
and Lee counters with a nice uppercut.
Lee Throws a clean left jab. Lee Twirls his body and connects with a Spinning Back Fist that connects flush with Brooks's chin! Brooks crumbles to the ground and Lee follows up with some unanswered strikes. It's all over!! Nice standup skills displayed by Lee!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:38 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Bruce Lee!
