Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Alvaro Boyd! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Yao Ming! The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Yamamoto, Shirou Masuda and Taro Takaoka.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Ming moves into the clinch. Boyd has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Ming after a bit of a struggle. Ming is looking to break free of the clinch but Boyd has double underhooks. Boyd wants the takedown. Ming is fighting it off but Boyd persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Ming's guard against the cage. Ming wants to stand up but Boyd is controlling him. Boyd looking to control the position here, rather than advance. Ming looking to hit a scissor sweep but Boyd is one step ahead there. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Ming is working an open guard so Boyd takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
That's one minute gone in the round. Ming moves into range and clinches up with Boyd. Ming is trying to push Boyd away but Boyd has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere. Boyd is trying to pull guard but Ming turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch. Ming tries to stall but Boyd uses the opportunity to gain a better position.
Boyd jumps guard but Ming turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Alvaro Boyd. That's going to take a lot out of him. Boyd goes for a takedown attempt but Ming pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Ming forces Boyd back against the cage and clinches. Ming lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage. Ming's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. A head kick misses from Ming.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Ming lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise. Boyd throws a wild hook but Ming just manages to duck under it and - ooooh! Boyd gets nailed by a brutal uppercut which crumples him back against the cage! The referee jumps in - Ming raises his hands in celebration and walks away!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:11 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Yao Ming!
