PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Kimura Minamoyo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Popoy Kenjutsu (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Kimura Minamoyo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Popoy Kenjutsu!
The judges for this bout are Hirohito Nitta, Yukihiro Yamamoto and Kenichi Hosakawa.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
The fight stays on the outside here - Minamoyo looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Kenjutsu looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Minamoyo throws a head kick that looked like it stung.
Minamoyo thuds his shin into the meat of Kenjutsu's side.
Kenjutsu stuffs the takedown.
Minamoyo fails with an attempt to clinch.
Minamoyo tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Minamoyo throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Kenjutsu's waist but Kenjutsu gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Minamoyo off to one side.
Popoy Kenjutsu seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Minamoyo doesn't manage to clinch there - Kenjutsu circles away.

Kenjutsu shoots in but Minamoyo avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Minamoyo moves in looking to clinch but Kenjutsu pushes him off.

Kenjutsu looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Minamoyo!
Minamoyo slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
Minamoyo is trying to control but can't.
Minamoyo makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Minamoyo.
Minamoyo is trying to control the position but Kenjutsu postures up.
Kenjutsu wants to stand but Minamoyo has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Kenjutsu trying to control the position from guard on top but Minamoyo is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Minamoyo will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Minamoyo fails with the takedown

and Kenjutsu counters with a single leg into guard. Minamoyo didn't expect that.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Kimura Minamoyo. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Kenjutsu would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Kenjutsu tries to free his leg and advance position but Minamoyo is retaining full guard.
Minamoyo is looking to stand up but Kenjutsu isn't so interested in that idea.
Minamoyo throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.

Minamoyo manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Kenjutsu manages to get himself to full guard.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Minamoyo is looking to work some ground and pound but Kenjutsu has wrist control.
Kenjutsu not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Minamoyo trying to control but Kenjutsu is working from the bottom.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Minamoyo tries to clinch there but Kenjutsu circles away.

No luck for Minamoyo with that takedown attempt.
Minamoyo lands with a slapping head kick.
Kenjutsu throws a sloppy head kick and Minamoyo moves out of range easily.
Minamoyo throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Kenjutsu's waist but Kenjutsu gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Minamoyo off to one side.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Minamoyo.

Kenjutsu feints and as Minamoyo raises his hands in defense, Kenjutsu changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Kenjutsu wants to get up but he can't break Minamoyo's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Minamoyo is trying to keep Kenjutsu in close.

Minamoyo is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Kenjutsu is controlling him.
Kenjutsu postures up.
Kenjutsu must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Kenjutsu postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.
Kenjutsu takes a head kick and shrugs it off.

Kenjutsu looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

Minamoyo wants to control but Kenjutsu is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Kenjutsu content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Kenjutsu's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Kenjutsu is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.
Minamoyo is looking to control Kenjutsu's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Minamoyo avoid being mounted?
Minamoyo tries to kick Kenjutsu off but Kenjutsu keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Kenjutsu is pressing down on Minamoyo's thigh, looking to free his foot. Minamoyo is holding on for now.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

and Kenjutsu counters with a nice double leg into side control. Minamoyo won't be happy with that.

Kenjutsu has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

and Kenjutsu counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Minamoyo wants to stand and escape but Kenjutsu is having none of it.
Kenjutsu controls from within his opponent's guard.

Minamoyo is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.

Kenjutsu stalls.
Minamoyo fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Minamoyo trying to land knees to the body.
Minamoyo wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Kenjutsu has him pressed against the cage.
Minamoyo can't get the takedown.
Kenjutsu slowing the pace effectively.

Kenjutsu gets control of Minamoyo's arms and successfully pulls guard. Kenjutsu will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Kenjutsu wants to get back to his feet but Minamoyo is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Kenjutsu is trying to keep Minamoyo in close.
Minamoyo wants to control from the top but Kenjutsu keeps moving.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Popoy Kenjutsu showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!

Minamoyo is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Kenjutsu is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Kenjutsu bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
You can see the frustration on Minamoyo's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Kenjutsu remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Minamoyo manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Minamoyo won't allow Kenjutsu to pass to mount.
Kenjutsu trying to control the action but Minamoyo is working from the bottom.
Minamoyo wants to control but Kenjutsu is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Kenjutsu thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Minamoyo's head.
Minamoyo slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Kenjutsu stands up from guard. Let's bang!

Kenjutsu gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Minamoyo has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Kenjutsu is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Minamoyo goes for a takedown attempt but Kenjutsu pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

Kenjutsu drives through with a takedown into guard.
Kenjutsu controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Minamoyo is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Popoy Kenjutsu has got the better of the ground game so far.

Kenjutsu tries to roll over but Minamoyo keeps him under control.
Minamoyo seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Kenjutsu does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Kimura Minamoyo has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Kenjutsu is not content to let Minamoyo control the position.

Popoy Kenjutsu comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Kenjutsu winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
