PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Tika Nukinen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Paul Mikel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Tika Nukinen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Paul Mikel!
The judges for this bout are Ben Zyskovitsi, Tarja Halkonen and Marco Blurström.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nukinen throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.

Nukinen takes the fight into the clinch.
Mikel taking a break, stalling in the clinch.
Mikel jumps guard but Nukinen stands there with Mikel around his waist. Mikel gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Nukinen can't find room to land a body shot as Mikel controls the action.
Mikel on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.

Mikel pulls guard effortlessly.
Nukinen wants to stand but Mikel has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Nukinen has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Mikel holds on and takes a little breather.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Nukinen knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Mikel on the ground.

Mikel is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Mikel not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Nukinen wants to stand and escape but instead Mikel has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Mikel prevents Nukinen from getting back to his feet.
Nukinen trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.

Mikel controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Mikel is pushing down on Nukinen's leg trying to pass to half guard. Nukinen is fighting to maintain full guard but Mikel has managed to sneak the leg through.
Mikel content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Mikel's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Nukinen is trying to stand up here but Mikel is controlling him well.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Nukinen throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Mikel.
Horrible takedown attempt by Mikel or perhaps it was just good defense by Nukinen, which made it look bad.

Nukinen rushes Mikel and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Nukinen connects with a knee to the head.
Nukinen misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Mikel.
Mikel tries to pull guard but Nukinen forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
Tika Nukinen has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Paul Mikel.
Mikel jumps guard but Nukinen turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Nukinen connects with a knee to the head.
Nukinen lands a body punch - he's looking to wear down Mikel.
Nukinen looking to throw knees to the head but Mikel is blocking nicely.
Nukinen misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Mikel.
Nukinen prevents a takedown attempt there.

Mikel gets control of Nukinen's arms and successfully pulls guard. Mikel will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Mikel looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Mikel looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Nukinen has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Mikel is proving hard to escape from.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Mikel will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

Mikel working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Nukinen doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Nukinen manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Tika Nukinen dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!


Mikel shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Nukinen throws a head kick that misses.
Mikel darts in looking for a takedown but Nukinen gets double underhooks and turns Mikel into the cage.
As Mikel tries to get set, Nukinen tries to push him back and clinch up but Mikel manages to avoid the attempt.
Nukinen throws a sloppy head kick and Mikel moves out of range easily.
Nukinen throws a head kick that looked like it stung.
Mikel fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Tika Nukinen has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Paul Mikel.
Mikel shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Nukinen as he jumps to the side.
Paul Mikel is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Mikel takes a head kick and keeps coming.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mikel drops his hands momentarily and Nukinen needs no second invitation. He sets himself and throws a perfect high kick, that clips Mikel just on the top of the head. Mikel drops like a sack of potatoes to the canvas, out cold! Oooooooh yeah! Stick a fork in Mikel - he's done!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:46 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Head Kick). Tika Nukinen!
Tika Nukinen decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
