Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Dick Stern (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Taishi Mori (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mori is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: The House That Snow Built. The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Dick Stern! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
10 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Taishi Mori! The judges for this bout are , Jack Bonds and Frank Antenori.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Mori misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Mori closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Stern's guard. Stern looking to hit a scissor sweep but Mori is one step ahead there. Stern is trying to control the position but Mori postures up. Stern wants to sweep here but Mori controlling him for the moment. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Stern is on top in guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Mori escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Stern gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Mori is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Stern is aware though and is defending well.
That's one minute gone in the round. Mori is looking for a triangle here but Stern uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Stern is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position. You can see the frustration on Mori's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Mori might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Stern haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time. It looks like Taishi Mori has been cut. Mori will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Stern throws a leg kick but Mori sees it coming and checks it nicely. A punch combination from Stern misses. A head kick misses from Stern. Mori closes the distance and clinches. Mori unloads a knee to the mid-section. Stern lets out a prehistoric sounding urrrrgh. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Mori has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Stern after a bit of a struggle. Dick Stern has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. Taishi Mori seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Stern checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time. We've been told by Stern's head coaches at Hell's Balls NY Hellcademy that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight. Stern misses with an uppercut. Mori throws a body punch but Stern moves out of range. Stern is looking for a counter combo. Stern on the wrong end of a kick to the body.
Mori tries to close the distance and clinch up but Stern swats him away and circles back towards the center. Stern throws a big counter combination but Mori scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage. Mori throws a body kick but he was well out of range there. Mori walks into a stiff left hand from Stern. Stern feints and then cracks Mori's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Mori down. Stern is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Mori can do to turn this around? Mori tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Mori finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.

Stern gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Mori to score an easy takedown into full guard. Mori must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Mori drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Stern manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Mori has Stern in his guard. Mori is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
That's four minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Stern looking to control the position here, rather than advance. Stern's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground. Mori has his foot on Stern's thigh. Mori throws a body kick but he wasn't in range. Mori tries to clinch but Stern is having none of it. Stern throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean. Mori tries a low kick but Stern avoids it. Mori takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.

Mori shapes to counter with a head kick. Mori throws a head kick that misses. Mori darts in looking for a takedown but Stern gets double underhooks and turns Mori into the cage. Stern throws a counter high kick but Mori was just alert enough to avoid it. Mori finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.

It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Stern here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man. Stern feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Mori's calf. Stern lands a nice leg kick that just misses Mori's sensitive parts. Stern lands a jab to Mori's midsection. Mori shoots in but Stern avoids the takedown attempt easily. Stern fires out a quick counter leg kick but Mori just manages to avoid it. Mori throws a low kick but Stern avoids it. Stern takes a kick to the side of the head. Mori shoots in but no luck this time. Mori takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. A nice inside leg kick there by Stern. That's going to slow Mori down. Mori throws a sloppy head kick and Stern moves out of range easily. Stern chopping away at his opponent's legs.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Stern lands with an uppercut that bounces Mori off the cage and back into range. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Mori blocks a head kick by Stern.

Stern throws a low kick but it's checked well by Mori. Stern tries to bum rush Mori with a series of wild strikes but Mori uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Nice sprawl there from Stern as Mori shoots in. Mori shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat. Mori trying to control the position from guard on top but Stern is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Stern looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Mori looking to sit in guard and control but Stern gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
