PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Kenji Aoki (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bobby McBain (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). McBain has chosen The Drunk Scottsman as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Kenji Aoki!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Bobby McBain!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Wesley Smith and Gwen Towbar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

McBain scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Aoki is staying active underneath McBain, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
McBain takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
McBain works his way into side control.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
McBain is looking to take a break and control but Aoki is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Aoki gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!
Aoki really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
McBain lands a heavy elbow.


It looks like Kenji Aoki has been cut.
Aoki is looking to improve his position but McBain isn't that keen on the idea.
McBain looking to control and managing it successfully.
McBain wants to control the pace but Aoki is squirming around nicely.
McBain is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Aoki is bucking up trying to escape but McBain cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Aoki is working to get back to half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Aoki regains half guard.
Aoki missing with punches from the bottom.
Aoki tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.
McBain is just content to waste time from the top position. Aoki takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
McBain wants to control from the top but Aoki keeps moving.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
McBain cracks Aoki with a solid left hand.
McBain wants to pass the guard but Aoki is keeping the position.
McBain is stalling in the full guard.
McBain trying to control but Aoki is working from the bottom.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Aoki throws some sloppy strikes off his back.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Aoki swinging wildly here.
McBain misses with a wild combination.
No luck with that takedown attempt from McBain.
Bobby McBain seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Aoki with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling McBain to score with a decent uppercut.


Kenji Aoki's cut is getting worse.
Aoki throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around McBain's waist but McBain gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Aoki off to one side.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

McBain shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Aoki is trying to defend but McBain finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Aoki wants to improve his position but McBain is controlling well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bobby McBain dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Kenji Aoki's cut.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


McBain looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Aoki gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows McBain to score an easy takedown into full guard.
McBain loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Aoki has an active guard here but McBain has managed to pass into half guard.
Aoki wants to get back to full guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Nice strikes from McBain there.
Aoki is refusing to be controlled, as McBain sits in half guard.
Aoki lands with a few short shots to the body.

Aoki tries to roll over but McBain keeps him under control.
Aoki is in trouble now - McBain has advanced to mount!
McBain working the ground and pound effectively.
McBain content just to control the position here.
Bobby McBain has got the better of the ground game so far.
Aoki flailing away with punches but nothing is landing.
Aoki is trying desperately to improve position.
McBain working away from the top, dropping strikes.


Jeez, Kenji Aoki's cut is really nasty now. The referee must be thinking about getting that checked.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Kenji Aoki's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:24 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Cut). Bobby McBain!
Bobby McBain seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website.
