PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Tre Spar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jonas De Vos (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). De Vos has chosen Wash My Soul -Tricky as his entrance music. Jonas De Vos will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 4 - 1, fighting out of St Petersburg, Tre Spar!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Jonas De Vos!
The judges for this bout are Sergei Dronov, Viktor Lagutenko and Valeri Chadov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Spar takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
De Vos lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by De Vos.
De Vos lands with a nice combination. Spar backs away looking to recover.


It looks like Tre Spar has been cut.
A nice combination there by De Vos.
De Vos throws a right hand that Spar ducks under and follows up with a left that Spar also avoids with ease.
No joy there for De Vos, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Spar is looking to counter with a shot to the body.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Nice defenses there by De Vos.
Spar tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Spar fails in his attempt to clinch.
De Vos throws a counter combo.
Spar misses with a telegraphed body shot
and De Vos counters with a three punch combo that has Spar backing up. Spar nods at De Vos to acknowledge the strikes.
Spar waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract De Vos.
Spar tests De Vos's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Spar closes the distance but De Vos moves to the side
and De Vos counters with a two punch combo.
A combination from De Vos does no damage.

Spar throws a hook but De Vos avoids it easily.
Despite the aggression on De Vos's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.

Spar moves into the clinch successfully.
Spar has De Vos pressed against the cage, preventing De Vos from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Spar is trying to drag De Vos to the mat but De Vos just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
De Vos looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
I was talking to Spar's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.
De Vos wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Spar has him pressed against the cage.
De Vos wants to get back to striking at distance but Spar won't allow it.
Spar wants a takedown but no success here.
Spar tries for a takedown. No joy.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Tre Spar. That's going to take a lot out of him.
De Vos wants to break the clinch but can't.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Spar changes levels and goes for a takedown here. De Vos fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Spar throws a head kick but De Vos moves out of range.
Spar closes the distance but De Vos moves to the side
and De Vos connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Spar is breathing heavily.
Spar has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.

Spar moves into the clinch successfully.
Spar is trying to drag De Vos to the mat but De Vos just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
De Vos is trying to force a seperation but Spar has the dominant position.
Spar is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but De Vos is defending well.

Spar drops to a knee looking for a takedown but De Vos gets the underhooks and prevents it.
De Vos is pressed up against the cage. Spar has hold of a leg and is looking to drag De Vos down to the mat. De Vos avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Spar wants to clinch up but De Vos keeps it at a distance.
Spar fakes high and swings low for a body shot but De Vos manages to avoid it.
Spar throws a leg kick but De Vos checks it.
De Vos is looking for the big counter here.
Spar throws a chopping leg kick but De Vos manages to avoid taking any serious damage.
Spar is on the wrong end of a nice combination from De Vos.
Spar throws an ugly left hook that misses
and De Vos counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
De Vos showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Spar.
De Vos lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
De Vos throws a right and a left that both miss.
Tre Spar seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Oooooh!!! De Vos has knocked Spar down with a huge combo! De Vos steps away and waves a wobbly Spar back to his feet! This one might not go much longer!


Spar is rocked!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
De Vos lands with a big right hook that stumbles Spar - he's out on his feet here! De Vos follows up with another monster hook that separates Spar from consciousness! Spar falls, almost in slow motion to the canvas! De Vos stands and admires his work as the crowd go wild.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:06 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Jonas De Vos!
Jonas De Vos decided to thank the fans in attendance for making a great atmosphere. It seemed to go down pretty well.
