Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Nicolas Walters! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Oscar Dos Larres! The judges for this bout are Seu Braga, Matheus Silva and Leandro Rodrigues.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Walters shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Dos Larres takes a swing at Walters's ribcage but misses. Walters changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit. A momentary lapse in concentration from Walters enables Dos Larres to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Walters manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat. Walters can't keep his opponent in guard - Dos Larres advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount. Dos Larres stalling away here and it's allowed Walters to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard. Dos Larres pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Walters is keeping the position for now. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Walters working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Dos Larres doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Dos Larres manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Walters is looking for a triangle here but Dos Larres uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
That's one minute gone in the round. Dos Larres wants to control but Walters is keeping him busy. Walters taking a bit of punishment here - Dos Larres scoring with strikes. Dos Larres really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Walters. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Walters is trying to get back to half guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Dos Larres wants to lay and pray for a moment but Walters keeps working. The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now. Walters defending against the ground and pound. Dos Larres wants to control but Walters is keeping him busy.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Dos Larres tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Dos Larres has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! Dos Larres wants to control but Walters is keeping him busy. Dos Larres content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though. We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace. Sloppy strikes there by Dos Larres.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Dos Larres trying to control the position but Walters is working away.
The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet. Walters looks to score with a jab to the body but Dos Larres is just out of range. Dos Larres tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Walters gets caught flat footed, as Dos Larres shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. Dos Larres wants to stand and escape but instead Walters has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard. Dos Larres has a closed guard, preventing Walters from standing up. Walters throws a strike but Dos Larres rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Walters working for a triangle but Dos Larres defends it easily.
Walters had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Dos Larres defends it easily. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Oscar Dos Larres dominated that round. That's time! Back to the action!
Walters keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Dos Larres. Walters throws a body kick that misses. Walters showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Dos Larres.
Excellent takedown into side control there by Walters. Dos Larres is trying to control Walters's posture but Walters avoids it. Walters wants to control but Dos Larres is keeping him busy. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Walters goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Dos Larres rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Walters's guard! Nice work there by Dos Larres! Dos Larres has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
That's one minute gone in the round. Dos Larres wants to pass the guard but Walters is keeping the position. Walters is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Dos Larres defends well. Dos Larres wants to control from the top but Walters keeps moving. Dos Larres stays in close to Walters's body and controls the position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Dos Larres drops back, looking for a kneebar! Walters looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Walters looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Walters! Dos Larres throwing some weak shots from the bottom that do no damage.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Dos Larres is trying to get back to his feet. Dos Larres can't do much from the bottom here. Walters is in a dominant position here, looking for a kimura. Dos Larres looks calm but he's in trouble here. Walters gets his leg over his opponent's head and yanks on the arm. Dos Larres is tapping like a morse code operator on the titanic! SOS! SOS! Walters lets go of the hold and Dos Larres can pop his arm back in it's socket.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:57 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Nicolas Walters!
