PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Jaxon Fields (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Louis Santos Jr (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Fields's entrance music is Pretty Handsome Awkward. A fine choice. Louis Santos Jr told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Eddie Farnsworth, John Roberts and Alyssa Summers.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Santos Jr tries to keep at a distance but Fields has taken the fight into the clinch.
Santos Jr is trying to drag Fields to the mat but Fields just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Santos Jr gets underhooks to prevent Fields's takedown attempt.
Santos Jr tries to pull guard but Fields won't allow it.
Santos Jr is looking to take this one to the mat.
Jaxon Fields has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Louis Santos Jr.
Fields has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Santos Jr avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Santos Jr pulls guard.
Santos Jr controls Fields momentarily but Fields frees himself.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Fields tries to free his leg and advance position but Santos Jr is retaining full guard.
Fields knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Santos Jr on the ground.
Fields throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Santos Jr works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Fields trying to control but Santos Jr is working from the bottom.

Fields wants to stand but Santos Jr has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Fields trying to control the position from guard on top but Santos Jr is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Fields stops Santos Jr from standing up.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Santos Jr wants to sweep here but Fields controlling him for the moment.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Fields takes the fight into the clinch.
Fields working Santos Jr over with knees to the body.

Fields's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Fields circles away from the clinch attempt
and Fields counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.

Fields closes the distance and clinches.
Fields is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Santos Jr to keep the fight standing.
A frustrated look appears on Santos Jr's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Santos Jr can't get the takedown.
Santos Jr jumps guard but Fields turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Santos Jr has Fields pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Fields manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Fields pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Fields lands a jab-cross combination.

Fields has Santos Jr up against the cage in a clinch.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Santos Jr breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Fields definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Fields shoots in for a double leg but Santos Jr sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Fields changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Santos Jr tries to avoid it but Fields manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Santos Jr to the ground. Santos Jr escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Fields looks to clinch

and Santos Jr counters with a nice double leg into side control. Fields won't be happy with that.
Fields is trying to work for a sweep but Santos Jr has mounted him!
Fields tries to control Santos Jr's body but Santos Jr pushes him off. Fields squirms to his side and now Santos Jr has his back!

Fields won't enjoy being in this position. Santos Jr looking for the choke. Oh... he's slipped the arm under the neck - Fields is tapping - it's over boys! Santos Jr picks up the submission victory!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:56 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Louis Santos Jr!
