Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
22 - 15 - 1, fighting out of London, Jeff Jonhson! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
28 - 33 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Roman Kvasov! The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Alan Glass and Tiny Johnson.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Ooooh, nice body kick lands from Jonhson. Kvasov shrugs it off though. A punch lands to the side of Jonhson 's head but he takes it in his stride. Jonhson jabs Kvasov to the body, keeping him at a distance. Sloppy strikes from Kvasov. Those never looked like landing. Kvasov lands with a cross. Jonhson pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way. Kvasov throws a right and a left that Jonhson avoids nicely. Jonhson jinks towards his opponent looking like he wants to counter with a mid kick but doesn't commit. Kvasov throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Jonhson looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
Jonhson has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance. Jonhson scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business. Kvasov throws out a token jab with nothing on it. Kvasov throws a sloppy head kick and Jonhson moves out of range easily. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Jonhson jabs at Kvasov's body. A shot to the liver by Jonhson. Beautiful body shot. Kvasov throws a lazy uppercut
and Jonhson counters with a head kick that drops Kvasov to the mat! Kvasov scrambles across the canvas and gets back to his feet, still wobbly!
That's one minute gone in the round. Jonhson tries a low kick but Kvasov avoids it. Jonhson is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Kvasov connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there. Jonhson misses with a hook. Jonhson gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Jonhson throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Kvasov throws a hook but Jonhson blocks it. Jonhson turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick. Kvasov fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Jonhson has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage. Jonhson comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range. Kvasov throws a nice looking combination but Jonhson bobs and weaves to avoid any damage. Kvasov feints and then cracks Jonhson's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Jonhson down. Kvasov fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.
That's two minutes gone in the round. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Jonhson slips a jab and a cross from Kvasov.
Jonhson thuds a left hand into Kvasov's body. Kvasov scores with the left hand. Jonhson knows he should have avoided that one. Kvasov throws a low kick but it's checked well by Jonhson. Jonhson takes a shot right to the bread basket. Kvasov moves into range and lands a nice leg kick. Jonhson works Kvasov's body with a nice hook. Kvasov throws a body kick but he wasn't in range. Kvasov throws the left hand but Jonhson avoids the punch easily. A combination from Kvasov does no damage. Kvasov throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Jonhson is looking to wear down Kvasov with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment. Kvasov swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Jonhson misses with a two punch combination.
Kvasov doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body. Jonhson lands a head kick. Kvasov smiles back at him and beckons him forward. No joy there for Kvasov, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
A little feinted left hand from Jonhson on the counter but he doesn't commit to it. Jonhson throws a body shot but no joy. Jonhson gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there. Jonhson lands a nice shot that snaps Kvasov's head back.
Kvasov is rocked! Jonhson connects with a left and a right that sees a clearly hurt Kvasov covering up! Jonhson comes in with a big uppercut and Kvasov goes doooown! He's slumped up against the cage, eyes staring blankly into space.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:45 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Jeff Jonhson! After winning the bout, Jeff Jonhson thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
