PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Alan Pitbull (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Grant Norris (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Norris comes into a darkened arena with his song building. The Night by Kromestatik kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 17 - 17 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Alan Pitbull!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 20 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Grant Norris!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Robert Twigg and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Norris falls off balance throwing a combination

and Pitbull counters with a single leg into guard. Norris didn't expect that.
Pitbull slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Norris is trying to control the position but Pitbull postures up.
Pitbull tries to free his leg and advance position but Norris is retaining full guard.
Pitbull really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Pitbull is stalling in the full guard.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Norris tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Norris keeping full guard, as Pitbull tries to pass.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Pitbull throws a series of punches but Norris moves out of range.
Pitbull ducks right into an uppercut from Norris.
Norris blocks a head kick by Pitbull.
Pitbull motions for Norris to come forward. Pitbull throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Pitbull lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
Norris scores with a hook.
Norris throws a jab when Pitbull was well out of range.

Pitbull feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Pitbull lands a couple of elbows.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Pitbull controls from within his opponent's guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Pitbull prevents Norris from getting back to his feet.
Norris working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Pitbull.
Pitbull wants to control from the top but Norris keeps moving.
Norris has momentary wrist control but Pitbull slips an elbow through the middle.
Pitbull trying to control but Norris is working from the bottom.
Pitbull slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Norris stops Pitbull from passing to mount.
Norris is looking to regain half guard here but Pitbull keeps moving and retains side control.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Pitbull goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Norris rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Pitbull's guard! Nice work there by Norris!
Pitbull tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Pitbull has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Norris trying to control but Pitbull is working from the bottom.
Pitbull looking for a sweep. Not yet Pitbull, not yet.
Pitbull throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
Pitbull is trying to control the position from the bottom.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Pitbull is on top in guard.

Pitbull controlling from the top position.
Norris tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Pitbull is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Pitbull looking to pass the guard.
Pitbull advances to half guard.
Norris is staying active underneath Pitbull, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Pitbull is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Pitbull is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Norris defends it well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Alan Pitbull dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Norris tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Pitbull wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch.
Pitbull shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Norris sprawls well. Norris wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Pitbull gets slowly back to his feet.
Pitbull shoots in for a double leg but Norris sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Despite the aggression on Norris's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.
Norris misses with a looping left.
Pitbull avoids a punch combination nicely.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Pitbull blocks a head kick by Norris.
Grant Norris seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Pitbull goes for a double leg but Norris avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Norris continues to drive forward.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Alan Pitbull. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Norris turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.

Pitbull changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Norris looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Pitbull has an Americana. Norris didn't react quickly enough there and he's in big trouble now! He tries to squirm out but is forced to tap! Pitbull is delighted and gyrates in front of the ring girls. They seem to like the attention - it'll be interesting to see if Pitbull hooks up with any of them at the after show party.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:39 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Alan Pitbull!
Alan Pitbull really struggled to get his t-shirt on before his hand was raised. Making sure that Nutrition 160 logo gets some air time is pretty tricky when you're all sweaty.
Grant Norris was interviewed post fight and said 'I made a lot of mental mistakes and it cost me. Lapses of concentration can break ya. I'll be back, bank on it. '.
