PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Josef Urrah (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Justin Anthony (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Urrah comes to the ring accompanied by Johnny Cash - Oney. Both fighters look pumped up here. Let's hope this is a good fight!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 9 - 0, fighting out of New York, Josef Urrah!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 33 - 18 - 2, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Justin Anthony!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Paulo Santos and Edson Gomes.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Urrah throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Anthony misses the shot to the body.
Urrah fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Anthony avoids it really well and circles away.
Anthony feints a jab promting Urrah to slip. Anthony then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Urrah slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
Anthony keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.

Urrah trying to control the position from guard on top but Anthony is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Urrah cracks Anthony with a solid left hand.
Urrah wants to control from the top but Anthony keeps moving.

Anthony not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Anthony is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Anthony gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Anthony wants to sweep here but Urrah controlling him for the moment.

Urrah has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Anthony is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Urrah is controlling him.

Anthony is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Urrah throws an elbow that misses. Anthony uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Urrah's guard. Nice move by Anthony!

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Urrah avoids the head kick by Anthony.
Anthony is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Urrah.
Anthony thuds his shin into the meat of Urrah's side.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Josef Urrah will probably get the nod.

Anthony throws a front kick aimed at Urrah's knee but Urrah avoids it well.

and Urrah counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Urrah feints and then cracks Anthony's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Anthony down.
Urrah throws a head kick that looked like it stung.

Urrah tries to land a front kick but Anthony steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Anthony thinks about the counter body kick.
Urrah throws an overhand right that lands on Anthony's shoulder, as Anthony tries to avoid the shot.
Urrah throws a wild body kick that Anthony sees coming a mile off.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Anthony misses with a few strikes there.
Urrah is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Anthony can do to turn this around?
Anthony throws a series of punches but Urrah moves out of range.
Urrah misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Anthony misses with a looping right.
Anthony misses with a jab, cross combination.

Anthony pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Horrible takedown attempt by Urrah or perhaps it was just good defense by Anthony, which made it look bad.
Anthony throws a front kick aimed at Urrah's knee but Urrah avoids it well.
Urrah takes a push kick to the midsection and stumbles backwards.
Urrah keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Justin Anthony is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Urrah blocks a low kick nicely.
Anthony swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Urrah uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Anthony.
Anthony throws a body kick that misses.
Anthony scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.
Justin Anthony seems to be getting the better of the standup.

Urrah changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Anthony looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
You can see the frustration on Anthony's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Urrah looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Urrah wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Anthony, who protects the arm well.
Anthony is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.

Urrah looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Anthony wants to control but Urrah is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Anthony is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Urrah's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Urrah's back!

I really don't envy Urrah right now.
Urrah looking very determined here, making life difficult for Anthony.

Anthony is looking cool and calm here, just waiting for a good opportunity to attack and finish the fight from this dominant position.
Will Anthony go for the finish here or will he try and keep control of the position?
Urrah tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Urrah fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Anthony.
Urrah attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin.
Anthony misses with a hook. Urrah ducked under it nicely.

A telegraphed takedown attempt from Urrah is defended easily by Anthony.

The fighters circle momentarily. Anthony darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
A cross from Urrah lands.
Anthony's coach down at Franklin D. Bluth Memorial Supergym was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Anthony's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.
Anthony connects with a body shot that sends Urrah's belly button to the back.
Urrah throws a nice head kick!
Anthony darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
Anthony swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Urrah is looking for a counter combo.
Urrah shoots in for a takedown but Anthony shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Urrah avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Urrah is looking to counter with a shot to the body.
Anthony fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Urrah looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Justin Anthony seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Anthony throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Urrah's head.
Anthony lands a brutal head kick. Urrah looks out on his feet and Anthony throws more strikes until the ref is forced to stop the fight!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:57 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Kick and Punches). Justin Anthony!
An out of breath Justin Anthony thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
In defeat, Josef Urrah stepped up to the mic, saying 'Man kan vara vinnare även om man förlorar.'.
