PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Joan Wells (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Justin Broady (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 5 - 1, fighting out of London, Joan Wells!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Justin Broady!
The judges for this bout are Andrew Berry, William Gold and James Atkins.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wells tries to score a power double leg takedown but Broady sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Wells somewhat.

Broady manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Wells on his heels. He'll look to pass Wells's guard now, I'm sure.
Broady wants to pass the guard but Wells is keeping the position.
Broady postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Broady sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Broady wants to stand and escape but instead Wells has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Broady trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!

Broady pushes Wells off and gets back to his feet.

Broady shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Wells manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Broady is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Broady has gone for a leg lock! Wells slips out almost immediately though and dives into Broady's guard.

Wells throws an elbow that misses. Broady uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Wells's guard. Nice move by Broady!

Wells has momentary wrist control but Broady slips an elbow through the middle.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Wells is trying to control the position but Broady postures up.
Broady wants to pass the guard but Wells is keeping the position.

Wells tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Broady lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Broady not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Wells looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Broady puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
Broady content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Broady is nestled in close to Wells, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Wells is trying to control but can't.
Wells has hold of Broady's hands but Broady slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Broady seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.
Broady seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Broady is looking for a kimura but Wells is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Broady to get the leverage.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Broady breaks from Wells's wrist control and lands an elbow.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Broady closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Wells quickly recovers to half guard.

Wells tries to roll over but Broady keeps him under control.

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Broady looks to land a body kick but Wells moved away.

Broady shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Wells napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Broady has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Wells has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!

Broady has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Wells trying to control the hands but Broady breaks the grip.
A bit of a pause in the action here. Broady controlling the positon.
Broady gets his hands free as Wells looks to control.
Broady controlling well, preventing Wells from escaping the position.

Broady working for a choke but Wells is defending well.

Broady is looking for the choke from the back position but Wells is controlling his hands well.
Wells tries to break free.
Broady is landing with strikes from the back.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Broady has his opponent's back and is working for the choke.
Broady controls the action.
Wells can't escape the position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Wells tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!

Wells is wriggling around trying to escape.
Broady pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
The referee warns Wells that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.

Broady fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!

Justin Broady showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. And we move into the final round!

Wells is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Broady wants to get up but he can't break Wells's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Broady swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Wells half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
Wells tries to clinch but Broady is having none of it.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Broady takes the fight into the clinch.

Broady turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Broady manages to end up in side control.
Broady tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.
Wells throws a couple of strikes even though he's not really in a good position to do so.
Broady controlling the position.
Wells tries to strike but it doesn't land.

Broady tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.
Broady trying to control the action but Wells is working from the bottom.

Broady tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Wells might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Wells is trying to get back to half guard.
Wells trying to remain calm as Broady controls from the top position.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Broady stands up.

Broady drives through and clinches with Wells against the cage.

Broady has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Wells regains guard immediately.
Broady is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Joan Wells has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Justin Broady is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Broady pushes down on Wells's leg and manages to get into half guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Justin Broady comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Broady has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
