PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Cristian Romero (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Vajas Tomas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Tomas has chosen Wasted Years as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 26 - 25 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Cristian Romero!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Vajas Tomas!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Gwen Towbar and Chris Downing.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Tomas tries to close the distance and clinch but Romero swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Romero gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Tomas counters with a nice kick to the body.
Romero tries for a takedown but Tomas sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Tomas tries to clinch up but Romero circles away and keeps his distance.
Romero went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.
Tomas wants to clinch.
Tomas with a body punch. A glancing blow.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Romero is defended easily by Tomas.

Romero dives in and grabs Tomas's left leg, looking for a takedown. Tomas pushes down on Romero's head and hops out.

Vajas Tomas is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Romero shoots in looking for a takedown. Tomas tries to sprawl out of it but Romero keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Tomas manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Tomas escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Romero explodes with a nice body kick and back out of range. Nice work.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Tomas, right into the meat.
Romero is trying hard to land a takedown here. Tomas sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Tomas is loading up here, looking for a big counter of his own.

and Romero counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Romero.
Romero tries to free his leg and advance position but Tomas is retaining full guard.

We've been hearing that Romero has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Tomas can do anything to dispel that myth.

Romero is pressing down on Tomas's thigh, looking to free his foot. Tomas is holding on for now.
Tomas looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Tomas looks like he's trying to stand up.
Tomas really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Romero. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Romero seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Tomas misses with a leg kick

and Romero counters with a shoot takedown. Tomas fights it but they end up in guard.
Romero passes Tomas's left leg - he's now in half guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Tomas throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Romero doesn't succeed with the takedown
letting Tomas counter with a right hand.

Tomas has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Tomas throws a feint and then finishes with a kick to the body.

Cristian Romero is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Tomas lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Romero has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Romero and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.
Romero drops down looking for a counter takedown but Tomas sprawls and moves away.
Romero shoots for a double leg takedown but Tomas sprawls well. He's pushed Romero's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Romero bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.

Romero has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Tomas regains guard immediately.

Hammerfist, elbow! yells Romero's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

Romero stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Tomas swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Romero steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Tomas. That one must have hurt.
Romero throws a body kick that digs right into the meat.
Tomas tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Romero manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Romero feinted with a counter takedown.
Tomas misses with a low kick.
Romero fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Romero misses with a jab to the body
and Tomas counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.
Romero shoots in looking for a takedown but Tomas manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Romero's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Romero sets himself, and Tomas steps forward looking for the clinch! Romero avoids it this time.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Vajas Tomas showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Romero chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Tomas can pounce on him.
