PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Marcus Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bob Sapp (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Marcus Jones!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Bob Sapp!
The judges for this bout are Dillan Fox, Yves DeLean and Gregory Folan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sapp misses with a wild combination.

Sapp shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Sapp wants to control from the top but Jones keeps moving.
Jones is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Sapp trying to control but Jones is working from the bottom.
Sapp must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Jones looking for a sweep. Not yet Jones, not yet.
Jones trying to control the position.
Sapp throwing strikes but missing.
Sapp has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Jones is proving hard to escape from.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.
Jones tries to bum rush Sapp with a series of wild strikes but Sapp uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Sapp lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Sapp.
Sapp fails in his attempt to clinch.
Sapp is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.
Sapp shoots in and drives through. Jones sprawls well.
Left hook, right uppercut from Sapp.

Sapp drives through with a takedown into guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Jones looking to control.
Sapp is fighting to break Jones's control of his arms but Jones is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Jones controls Sapp momentarily but Sapp frees himself.

Jones manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Sapp manages to get himself to full guard.
Sapp is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Jones stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Sapp swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Sapp manages to escape and get back to his feet.

Sapp closes the distance and clinches.
Jones is trying to drag Sapp to the mat but Sapp just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Sapp breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Sapp scores with a slapping inside leg kick.
Jones is breathing heavily.

Jones shoots in and drives through. Sapp sprawls well.

Sapp looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Jones!
Jones regains half guard.
Sapp tries to stand and escape but Jones is controlling the position.
Sapp is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Sapp throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Jones manages to get to full guard.
Sapp wants to control from the top but Jones keeps moving.

Jones doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.

Sapp gets to his feet. Jones looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Sapp fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Jones manages to avoid it.
Sapp throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Jones counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Jones.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Jones wants to control from the top but Sapp keeps moving.
Jones postures up in Sapp's guard and throws a big left but Sapp blocks it.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Sapp can do anything to dispel that myth.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Jones working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Sapp looking for a sweep. Not yet Sapp, not yet.
Sapp throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bob Sapp dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Jones throws and low kick but Sapp moves out of range easily.
Jones shoots in for a double leg but Sapp sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Sapp scores a takedown into full mount!
Sapp lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Jones hang on?

Sapp has control of Jones's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Jones regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Jones gets back to half guard.
Sapp really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Jones. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Jones moves into full guard.
Jones has his hands on Sapp's head, controlling the position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Jones lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Sapp!
Sapp squirming around on the bottom, looking to escape.

Jones working for a submission but Sapp is keeping him at bay.
Sapp regains half guard.
Sapp wants to improve his position but Jones is controlling well.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Jones is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Sapp is looking for a sweep. Jones is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Jones is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Sapp kicks off Jones and gets to his feet.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Jones shoots in but Sapp avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Sapp throws a right and a left that both miss.
Sapp tries to clinch there but Jones circles away.
Jones misses with a takedown
and Sapp counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Marcus Jones. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Sapp throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Jones counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Jones seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Sapp does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Jones is trying to work for a kimura but Sapp is defending well.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Jones is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Sapp defends it well.
Jones works his foot free and advances to mount.
Marcus Jones overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Sapp wants to hold on but Jones pushes him away.
Jones takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Sapp working to try and regain half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Marcus Jones dominated that second round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Jones shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Sapp as he avoids it easily.
Jones dodges the punch combination from Sapp.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Jones crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Sapp - the referee stops the clock and Jones gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Sapp. Jones manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.
Jones shoots in but Sapp avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Sapp shoots in for a takedown and gets it.

Sapp is working for a kimura but Jones is defending it quite comfortably.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Jones trying to control but Sapp postures up.
Sapp is looking to pass Jones's guard but actually Jones recovers to full guard.

Jones looking for a guillotine here but Sapp defends easily.
Sapp lands a couple of decent looking shots.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Jones looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Sapp stands and steps away. Jones gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Sapp stalks Jones and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Jones's face. Jones staggers backwards, shaken.
Sapp swings for the body but Jones moves out of range.
Sapp tries for a takedown but Jones circles away easily

and Jones counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Jones.
Sapp wants to get back to his feet but Jones is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Sapp striking off his back but it's not causing Jones any problems.
Jones trying to control the position from guard on top but Sapp is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Sapp is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Jones is controlling him.
Jones preventing the sweep.
Sapp wants to hit a switch here but Jones passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Sapp there!
Jones wants to control the pace but Sapp is squirming around nicely.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Jones is working for a guillotine from mount but Sapp frees his head quite easily.
Sapp wants to try and get back to his feet.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Jones working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet.

Jones jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Sapp manages to avoid the submission attempt.
Jones looking to control but instead Sapp has slipped a leg in, to regain half guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Marcus Jones showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Jones has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
