Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Wanderlei Silva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Charles Olivieira (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Olivieira is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: POWER. Wanderlei Silva has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Wanderlei Silva!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Charles Olivieira!
The judges for this bout are Leandro Rodrigues, Luis Engracia and Felipe Paraventi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Olivieira gets caught flat footed, as Silva shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Silva pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Olivieira is keeping the position for now.
Olivieira wants to stand but Silva is controlling the position.
Olivieira is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.
Olivieira is looking to stand back up but Silva counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Olivieira.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Silva lands a nice short elbow.
Silva knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Olivieira on the ground.
Silva wants to take a breather but Olivieira is having none of it.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Silva darts in and clinches Olivieira up against the cage.

Silva looks to land a body kick but Olivieira moved away.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Olivieira throws Silva to one side and escapes!

Silva fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Olivieira, pushing him back against the cage.

Olivieira is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
It looks like Olivieira might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Olivieira's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Silva feints and as Olivieira raises his hands in defense, Silva changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Olivieira has his feet on Silva's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.
Wanderlei Silva seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Olivieira moves out of range of the body kick.
As Silva backs off Olivieira throws a huge counter combo but Silva manages to avoid it all.
Silva throws a head kick that half lands.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Olivieira is looking to stand up but Silva isn't so interested in that idea.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Olivieira has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. Silva is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position.
Olivieira wants to take the fight to the mat but Silva manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.

Olivieira jumps guard and drags Silva to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Silva stops Olivieira from standing up.

Olivieira wriggles free and stands up.

Silva closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Olivieira is looking to take this one to the mat.
Silva has had enough of the clinch but Olivieira keeps him there for the moment.
Silva lands a left hand that snaps the head of Olivieira backwards.

Olivieira is trying to trip Silva. He has hold of a leg but Silva is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Olivieira persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Olivieira is stalling in the full guard.

Let's hope that Olivieira has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Olivieira won't allow Silva to sweep him here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Olivieira is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
We're seeing a lot of stalling here from Olivieira.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Silva closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Olivieira seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

A close second round but Charles Olivieira will probably get the nod - 10:9.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Wanderlei Silva.
Well Silva has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
