Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
6 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Gustavo Santos! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kyle Dillashaw! The judges for this bout are Felipe Paraventi, Matheus Silva and Luis Engracia.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Dillashaw shoots for a takedown but Santos saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Santos fails with the takedown. Dillashaw misses with a takedown attempt - Santos sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Dillashaw misses the shot to the body. Santos scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground. Dillashaw controlling the position for now. Dillashaw has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Santos is on him like a limpet, forcing Dillashaw back against the cage. Dillashaw tries for a takedown but Santos manages to get underhooks.
Gustavo Santos has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kyle Dillashaw. Santos escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Santos looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight. Dillashaw closes the distance and clinches.
That's one minute gone in the round. Dillashaw pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Kyle Dillashaw seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Horrible takedown attempt by Santos or perhaps it was just good defense by Dillashaw, which made it look bad. Dillashaw gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. Dillashaw keeping moving, preventing Santos from controlling successfully. Dillashaw wants to sweep but no luck. Santos tries to free his leg and advance position but Dillashaw is retaining full guard. Santos trying to control but Dillashaw is working from the bottom.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Dillashaw is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage. Santos is posturing up here but Dillashaw has hold of an arm and he's gone for an armbar! Santos tries to roll out but it's too tight and Santos has to tap! Slick submission there by Dillashaw!
