Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Quinton Nelson! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Phil Brooks! The judges for this bout are , Jack Bonds and Timothy Bukovac.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Brooks feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. Nelson looking to hit a scissor sweep but Brooks is one step ahead there. Nelson is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Nelson trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Brooks postures up.
Nelson could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Brooks trying to control but Nelson is working from the bottom.
That's one minute gone in the round. The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace. Nelson is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Brooks shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Nelson knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Brooks on the ground. Brooks sitting and controlling from the half guard. Brooks prevents Nelson from improving his position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Brooks tries to pass the half guard into mount. Nelson knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt. Nelson has one foot on Brooks's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet. Nelson moves to clinch but Brooks breaks away and Brooks counters with a left right combination that sends Nelson crashing to the mat - Brooks wastes no time in diving on top of him and pounding Nelson out for a TKO! Devastating finish!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:40 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Phil Brooks!
