Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Eduardo Zapata (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Master Roshi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Zapata comes to the cage accompanied by Rage Against The Machine - Killing In The Name. Master Roshi has the eye of the tiger tonight.

3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Master Roshi! The judges for this bout are , Don Winkell and Jack Bonds.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Roshi lands with a kick to the ribs.
Roshi throws a series of punches but Zapata moves out of range. Roshi scores with a hook to the body. Zapata takes a step back and tries to catch his breath. Zapata looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Roshi is fending him off so far but Zapata persists. Nope, Roshi circles away and we're back to standing. Zapata gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there. Zapata uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Roshi. Zapata feinted with a counter takedown. Roshi lands a nice shot that snaps Zapata's head back.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Roshi throws a hook but Zapata avoids it easily. Roshi looks to score with a jab to the body but Zapata is just out of range. A kick lands to the mid section there for Roshi.
That's one minute gone in the round. Roshi connects with a body shot that sends Zapata's belly button to the back. Zapata bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes. Zapata avoids a lazy jab quite easily. Roshi lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Zapata walks into a left hand. A looping hook to the body misses from Roshi. Zapata does a little dance to reset his feet. It looked like Zapata wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit. Zapata ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face. Zapata attempts a counter takedown but Roshi avoids it well and moves away. Roshi ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Zapata moves away.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Roshi connects with a crisp jab. Roshi misses with a hook. Zapata ducked under it nicely. Zapata feinted with a counter takedown. Zapata slips under a jab from Roshi. Roshi swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target. Roshi misses with a straight right. Zapata half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range. Roshi scores with a kick to the body.
This has been an exciting period of action! Roshi lands with a cross. Roshi throws a hook but Zapata blocks it. As Roshi tries to get set, Zapata tries to push him back and clinch up but Roshi manages to avoid the attempt.

and Zapata decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Roshi's guard. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Roshi is on top in guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Zapata is looking to work some ground and pound but Roshi has wrist control. Roshi pulls Zapata in to control the position. Roshi preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Zapata stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Roshi swivels though and keeps the full guard. Zapata trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Both fighters have adopted an aggressive gameplan on the ground! Zapata working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Roshi is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage. Zapata throws a big right hand that misses. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Roshi can do anything to dispel that myth. Zapata throwing strikes from guard but Roshi blocks nicely. Roshi looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Roshi is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control. Zapata throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Roshi works some decent striking defense from the bottom. And that�s the end of the round � the fighters go back to their corners.
Master Roshi dominated that round. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!
Roshi misses with a looping right. Roshi has been the more effective fighter overall so far. Zapata doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body. Zapata shoots in and drives through. Roshi sprawls well. Roshi is clearly trying to counter these attacks from Zapata with a body shot. Roshi throws a lazy right hand but Zapata sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily. A telegraphed takedown attempt from Zapata is defended easily by Roshi. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. That kick from Roshi tenderised Zapata's leg. Zapata is trying to keep his angry face on.
That's one minute gone in the round. Roshi throws a nice outside leg kick. Roshi fakes a head shot and lands one to the body. Zapata takes one to the chin there. Zapata takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Zapata uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Roshi. Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Roshi.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Roshi lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise. Roshi swings for the body but Zapata moves out of range.

A little nod from Zapata there as he acknowledges the shot. Master Roshi seems to be getting the better of the standup. Roshi digs a good hook to Zapata's body.

Zapata tries to check a leg kick but that clearly hurt him. Zapata sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs. Zapata slips under a jab. Zapata is looking to counter the offense by Roshi and move into the clinch. Master Roshi seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Roshi throws a hook but Zapata blocks it. Zapata blocks a head kick by Roshi.
Roshi connects with a crisp jab. Roshi fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Zapata has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Roshi throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Roshi scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Zapata doesn't seem bothered though. A leg kick checked by Zapata. Zapata takes one to the side of the head.

and Zapata counters with a shoot takedown. Roshi fights it but they end up in guard. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Roshi is pulling down on Zapata's head. It's preventing any offense from Zapata, at least for the moment. Let's hope that Roshi has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight. Master Roshi showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!
Roshi stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Roshi wants it to stay on the feet. Roshi pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Zapata back to the cage. Roshi follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver. Roshi scores with a leg kick.
Roshi defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Zapata. Roshi let fly with a counter punch to the body but it didn't land. Roshi throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Zapata. Zapata went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected. A big left from Roshi misses. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. and Zapata counters with a takedown into side control. Roshi is not in a great position here, taking some shots. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Zapata is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Roshi has escaped the position, nice work there.
That's one minute gone in the round. The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Zapata throwing shots but missing, from side control. Roshi manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu! Roshi trying to control the action but Zapata is working from the bottom. Zapata is holding on to half guard well. Zapata is trying to get back to full guard. Roshi wants to stand but Zapata has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now. Zapata has his hands clasped together around Roshi's back. He's all about the action. Roshi prevents Zapata from improving his position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Zapata is not content to let Roshi control the position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Roshi tries to stand and escape but Zapata is controlling the position. Roshi wants to pass the guard but Zapata is defending well. The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up. We've been hearing good reports from Zapata's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today. Zapata is looking to control Roshi's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Zapata avoid being mounted?

Zapata thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. Zapata is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Zapata with a flurry of punches that miss. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Roshi is on top in guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Roshi slips effortlessly into side control - very nice. Roshi wants to lay and pray for a moment but Zapata keeps working. Zapata is trying to improve his position. Roshi wants to stand but Zapata is controlling his arm. Zapata struggling a bit here. Roshi is looking to take a break and control but Zapata is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Roshi tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily. Zapata manages to get back to half guard. Zapata tries to get to full guard but Roshi has control of the leg. Roshi wants to lay and pray for a moment but Zapata keeps working. The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Roshi lands a jab to the nose. Zapata will be looking to protect his midsection after taking some solid kicks to the body. Zapata takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.

God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Roshi tries to land a sweep but no joy. Eduardo Zapata has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Roshi trying to keep a closed guard but Zapata is proving a slippery customer.
