Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Takeshi Tono!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Gus Pappas!
The judges for this bout are Ryoma Takatsuka, Paul Gruel and Josh West.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pappas throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Tono.
Tono avoids a punch combination nicely.
Tono lands with a thumping leg kick.
Pappas lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!


It looks like Takeshi Tono has been cut.
Tono throws a hook but Pappas avoids it easily.
Pappas will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Tono shoots for a takedown but Pappas saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Tono is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Tono is keen to just control but Pappas is a slippery customer.

Pappas is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.
Tono wants to control but Pappas is keeping him busy.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Tono is pushing down on Pappas's leg trying to pass to half guard. Pappas is fighting to maintain full guard but Tono has managed to sneak the leg through.

Tono is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Pappas has managed to free his arm - good work.

Tono is actively looking for submissions here but good counter grappling here from Pappas as he works his way to full guard.
Tono slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Tono tries to score with some ground and pound. Pappas controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Pappas throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Tono sees it coming and avoids it easily.

Pappas lands a jab-cross combination.
Pappas misses with a wild body shot.
Gus Pappas seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Good leg kick by Tono there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.

Tono changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.

Gus Pappas seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Pappas rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Tono moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Gus Pappas is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Pappas lands with an overhand left.
Pappas misses with a wild combination.
Tono feinted with a counter takedown.
Tono dodges the punch combination from Pappas.

and Pappas counters with a one-two to the body.
Pappas throws a series of punches but Tono avoids them all with ease.

Pappas takes a head kick and keeps coming.

Tono closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Tono is trying to get an arm triangle but Pappas is defending well.

Tono has hold of Pappas's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Pappas seems comfortable defending it but Tono has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Pappas is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Pappas is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Tono couldn't care less - he's delighted!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:34 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Takeshi Tono!
Takeshi Tono really struggled to get his t-shirt on before his hand was raised. Making sure that Big Bear Nutrition 160Q logo gets some air time is pretty tricky when you're all sweaty.
