PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Cory Scott (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sampson Kesler (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kesler has a niggling injury. He would have liked to come in 100% fit but that's not always possible. Sampson Kesler looks lathargic as he enters the arena. Wake up son, you're about to have a fight!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Cory Scott!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Sampson Kesler!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Chris Downing and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kesler bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Kesler looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Scott wants to clinch up but Kesler keeps it at a distance.
Sampson Kesler seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Scott misses with a looping right.
Scott tries to clinch up but Kesler circles away and keeps his distance.
Kesler tries to clinch but Scott moves out of range.
Kesler clinches but Scott breaks the clinch

so Scott counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Scott controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Scott stopping the sweep attempt from Kesler.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Scott looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Scott pushes down on Kesler's leg and manages to get into half guard.

Scott takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Kesler is trying to escape back to his feet but Scott uses the scramble to pass into side control.

Kesler tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Kesler looks to move to half guard but instead Scott has passed into mount! Damn!

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Scott takes Kesler's back.
Scott controlling the position well here. Kesler rolled but Scott kept the hooks locked in and stayed in the dominant position.
Scott has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Cory Scott just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.

Kesler is just holding on here. Scott manages to take his back.
Scott scores with some strikes to the side of the head there. Good, points scoring shots.

Scott tries to clinch up.
Scott shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Kesler pinned against the cage. Kesler gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Horrible takedown by Scott or perhaps it was just good defense by Kesler which made him look bad.
Scott shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Kesler but Kesler pushes him off and we're back to square one.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Cory Scott. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Scott will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Scott gets to his feet and calls his opponent to stand. Here come the fireworks!

and Scott decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Kesler's guard.

Kesler is trying to stand but he's just given Scott his back.
You know, I was talking to some of our celebrities at ringside tonight and they were split right down the middle on who was going to win this fight.
Scott keeps control of the position as Kesler tries to break free.
Kesler is being controlled on the ground here - he must escape this position otherwise surely the end is near.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Kesler throws a push kick but Scott slaps the foot to one side.
Scott misses with a jab, cross combination.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Scott gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Scott is trying to break free.
Kesler drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Scott is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.

Kesler is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Scott pulls him back up using the underhooks.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Kesler is looking to get back to his feet here but Scott is keeping cool and he's managed to take Kesler's back.
Sampson Kesler has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Scott has the hooks sunk in and you can see the will to fight slowly draining out of Kesler's body.

And that's the end of the fight!
Cory Scott showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Scott, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
