PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Judo Jim (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jay Walker (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Walker has a niggling injury. He would have liked to come in 100% fit but that's not always possible. The key to victory for Judo Jim has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 4 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Judo Jim!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Jay Walker!
The judges for this bout are Winston Alpacca, Sandra Marshall and Peter Branson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Walker looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Nice takedown defense from Walker. No joy for Jim on that attempt.

Jim shoots in for a takedown but Walker shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Judo Jim. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Jim shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Walker sprawls well. Walker wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Jim gets slowly back to his feet.
Despite the aggression on Walker's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.
Walker looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

As Jim backs off Walker throws a huge counter combo but Jim manages to avoid it all.
Jim shoots for a double leg takedown but Walker sprawls well. He's pushed Jim's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Jim pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Walker back to the cage. Jim follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.
Jim tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Walker manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Walker throws a counter combo.
Jim doesn't manage to clinch there - Walker circles away.
Walker avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
An inside leg kick lands from Jim.
Jim shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Walker as he avoids it easily.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Jim lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Walker has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Walker and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.
Jim shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Walker but Walker pushes him off and we're back to square one.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Walker takes a kick to the side of the head.


Walker is rocked!
Jim tries for a takedown but Walker sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Walker is still on wobbly legs! Can Jim finish him?
Jim doesn't manage to clinch there - Walker circles away.
Walker is looking for the big counter here.
Walker defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Jim.
Walker is clearly looking to counter with head kicks.
Jim shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Walker but Walker pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Walker seems to have recovered his senses.

Jim fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Walker, pushing him back against the cage.

Jim tries to circle away but Walker has him pinned against the cage.
Jim tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Jim is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Walker is defending well.
Jim lands a knee to the head there! That was nasty!
Jim is looking to break free of the clinch but Walker has double underhooks.
Jim is leaning against Walker and scores with a nice uppercut to the body.
Jim is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.
Jim fails to pull guard.
A knee to the head by Jim.
Jim is trying to stall.

Jim drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Jim is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.
Jim tries to land a knee to the head but Walker blocks with his arms.
Walker is looking to control Jim's arms but Jim gets an underhook and turns him. Now Walker has his back to the cage.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Jim wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Jim can't get the takedown.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Judo Jim will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Jim will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Jim tries to bum rush Walker with a series of wild strikes but Walker uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Walker shapes to counter with a head kick.
Jim shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Walker as he jumps to the side.
Good leg kick by Jim there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.

Jim wants to clinch up but Walker keeps it at a distance.
A nice side step and Walker releases a counter shot to the body, but it doesn't find it's home.
Jim lands a nice shot to the body.
Jim fails with an attempt to clinch.
Walker looks like he wanted to counter with a high kick but didn't throw it.
Walker takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Jim shoots in but Walker avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Jim tries to clinch but Walker moves out of range.
Jim fakes the leg kick and cracks Walker in the body.
Jim goes for a double leg but Walker avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Walker continues to drive forward.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Jim throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Walker's waist but Walker gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Jim off to one side.
Walker is looking for the big counter here.
Jim fails with an attempt to clinch.
Walker throws a counter combo.
Jim throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Walker! But no joy.
Jim fails with an attempt to clinch.
Jim pivots, looking for a leg kick but Walker is out of range and Jim settles back down.
Jim shoots in but Walker avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Walker wants to counter with a clinch but Jim pushes him away.
A decent looking body kick lands there for Jim.
Judo Jim is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Jim fails in his attempt to clinch.
Jim shoots in and drives through. Walker sprawls well.
Walker is looking for the big counter here.
Jim throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Walker.
Walker thinks about the counter body kick.
A jab from Jim finds it's way through Walker's defenses.
Walker finds himself stumbling back on wobbly legs after being clipped by a right hand. He's up against the cage, ducking and weaving under Jim's strikes but an uppercut finds it's way through and Walker falls! - He's completely out of it and the ref jumps in to save him!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:39 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Judo Jim!
