PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Frank McAfee (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Andrew Havener (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Havener has chosen Quack Like a Duck: The Goat an Your MOM as his entrance music. Frank McAfee is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples... Tweaking his own nipples that is.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Frank McAfee!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Andrew Havener!
The judges for this bout are Valeri Chadov, Fedor Mirinova and Viktor Lagutenko.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
McAfee dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Havener fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Havener avoids the head kick by McAfee.
Havener throws a hook but McAfee avoids it easily.

McAfee forces Havener back against the cage and clinches.
Havener wants a takedown.

McAfee manages to break the clinch.
McAfee circles away from the clinch attempt.
McAfee is looking for a counter combo.
Havener misses with a double jab

and McAfee counters by moving into the clinch.
McAfee misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Havener.

McAfee successfully pulls guard.
McAfee looking to hit a scissor sweep but Havener is one step ahead there.

McAfee throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Havener stops McAfee from standing up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

McAfee pushes Havener off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
McAfee throws a leg kick
and Havener counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps McAfee thinking.
Havener takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.


It looks like Andrew Havener has been cut.
Havener scores with a body shot.
McAfee shoots in but no luck this time.
Andrew Havener seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
McAfee avoids the head kick by Havener.
Havener throws a chopping leg kick but McAfee manages to avoid taking any serious damage.
Havener displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from McAfee.
Havener misses with a combination
and McAfee cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Havener tries to keep at a distance but McAfee has taken the fight into the clinch.
Havener can't break the clinch.
The referee calls for McAfee to work.
McAfee landing knees to the head.
Havener wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.

McAfee has Havener pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. McAfee pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Havener tumbling to the mat - McAfee dives into Havener's guard.

McAfee is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Havener trying to keep a closed guard but McAfee is proving a slippery customer.

McAfee wanted to stand there but Havener had control of the position.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Havener is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
McAfee slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
McAfee advances position into side control!
McAfee trying to control the action but Havener is working from the bottom.

McAfee is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Havener is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Frank McAfee dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Andrew Havener's cut.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


McAfee takes one to the chin there.
Havener misses with a looping right.

McAfee closes the distance and clinches.
McAfee stalling in the clinch.
McAfee is looking to take this one to the mat.
McAfee prevents Havener from breaking the clinch.
Havener wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but McAfee has him pressed against the cage.
McAfee is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

McAfee has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Havener uses from the top position.

Havener wanted to stand there but McAfee had control of the position.
McAfee pulls Havener in close to prevent any damage.

The fighters are working up against the cage. McAfee manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.
McAfee wants to take the fight to the mat but Havener manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
McAfee is looking for a takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Frank McAfee. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Havener is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
McAfee has Havener pressed against the cage, preventing Havener from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

McAfee manages to break the clinch.
Havener tries a head kick but it misses.
As Havener tries to get set, McAfee tries to push him back and clinch up but Havener manages to avoid the attempt.
Havener slaps away a takedown attempt from McAfee, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Andrew Havener seems to be getting the better of the standup.

Havener connects with a single shot there.
Havener stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Havener wants it to stay on the feet.
McAfee avoids the body shot from Havener.
Havener darts in trying to clinch

and McAfee counters with a shoot takedown. Havener fights it but they end up in guard.
Frank McAfee overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
McAfee content to stall in guard here.

Havener is working an open guard so McAfee takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

McAfee connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.

McAfee has taken the fight to the clinch.
McAfee can't get the takedown.
Havener is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Havener goes for a takedown attempt but McAfee pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

McAfee forces Havener back against the cage and clinches.
McAfee is trying to pull guard but Havener turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
Havener is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. McAfee is defending well for now.
McAfee is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Havener can do to turn this around?

McAfee wants to pass the guard but Havener is keeping the position.
McAfee is stalling in the full guard.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The cut man is working on Andrew Havener's cut.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


McAfee swats away the attempt to clinch by Havener.
McAfee thuds a left hand into Havener's body.

McAfee moves into the clinch.
McAfee keeps control of Havener as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Havener prevents the takedown attempt.
McAfee fails to pull the fight into his guard.

McAfee manages to break the clinch.
McAfee shoots for a double leg takedown but Havener sprawls well. He's pushed McAfee's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Frank McAfee. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Havener scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.
Havener takes a swing at McAfee's ribcage but misses.
Havener connects with an inside leg kick.
McAfee dives in and grabs Havener's left leg, looking for a takedown. Havener pushes down on McAfee's head and hops out.
McAfee ducks right into an uppercut from Havener.
Havener tries to close the distance and clinch but McAfee swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
McAfee blocks a head kick by Havener.
McAfee appears to be looking for a big counter.
Frank McAfee is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Havener takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
McAfee shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Havener as he jumps to the side.

McAfee tries to keep at a distance but Havener has taken the fight into the clinch.

The referee is keeping an eye on McAfee - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.
Havener is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.

McAfee has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Havener uses from the top position.
Andrew Havener has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Havener really doesn't want to stay on the ground with McAfee. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Havener has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of McAfee is proving hard to escape from.
McAfee bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Havener's guard.

McAfee makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
McAfee with a flurry of punches that miss.
McAfee sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Havener's guard.
McAfee passes to full mount!
McAfee avoids the attempt from Havener to control.
McAfee controlling his opponent.
McAfee raining down hammerfists from mount.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Havener in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head.

Havener reaches up to try and control the position but McAfee seems to have an arm triangle now! Uh oh! Havener rolls and tries to escape and now McAfee has his back!
McAfee has good solid back control here.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

And that's the end of the fight!
Frank McAfee showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for McAfee, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
