Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Christian Evansen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chris Herzog (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Herzog comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Takida - Curly Sue kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
14 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Christian Evansen! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
40 - 26 - 3, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Chris Herzog! The judges for this bout are Andrew Berry, Daniel Bishop and Sam Margolis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A head kick misses from Herzog. We've been told by Evansen's head coaches at Max Poppers that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight. Horrible takedown attempt by Evansen or perhaps it was just good defense by Herzog, which made it look bad. Herzog feints the counter takedown. Christian Evansen seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. A looping hook to the body misses from Evansen. Herzog does a little dance to reset his feet. Evansen on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those. Evansen throws a lazy head kick and Herzog counters with a takedown into side control. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Herzog in side control, throwing shots but Evansen defends. Evansen is looking to regain half guard here but Herzog keeps moving and retains side control. Herzog goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Evansen has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Herzog but great work by Evansen. Evansen is looking to take a break and control but Herzog is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Herzog is letting Evansen control him for a moment.
That's one minute gone in the round. Herzog is not content to let Evansen control the position. Herzog dodges the ground and pound from Evansen. Evansen goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Herzog rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Evansen's guard! Nice work there by Herzog! Evansen is trying to control the position from the bottom.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Herzog chips away with some ground and pound. Herzog postures up.

Herzog content to sit in guard, stalling... Great. Oh but he could get punished here because Evansen has locked up a guillotine! Evansen's face is contorted as he sqeezes tight on the submission attempt - will he finish? Herzog is holding on here and Evansen must be using up a lot of energy. Herzog has gone limp! He's out! He's out cold! Evansen gets to his feet, tossing aside his stricken foe. Arms raised, he milks the applause from the crowd. Great submission!
