PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Blitz Crank (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Edward Kelly (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Blitz Crank!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Edward Kelly!
The judges for this bout are Ron Honeybunn, Bruno Hogan and Damien Edna.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kelly will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Crank tries to keep at a distance but Kelly has taken the fight into the clinch.
Crank tries to work over Kelly's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Kelly is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Crank gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Kelly tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Crank just stands there and leans against the cage.
Blitz Crank has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Edward Kelly.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Crank goes for a body shot but it's blocked.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Kelly can do anything to dispel that myth.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Kelly looks up at the clock and then as Crank takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Kelly smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

You can see the frustration on Crank's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Kelly cracks Crank with an elbow. That is naaassty.
Kelly tries to score with some ground and pound. Crank controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Kelly is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Crank knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Crank takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.

Kelly scores with a couple of short elbows.
Kelly lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.
Crank managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Kelly.

Crank tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Kelly wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Crank is breathing heavily.

Kelly wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Crank, who protects the arm well.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Edward Kelly dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Kelly changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Crank tries to avoid it but Kelly manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Crank to the ground. Crank escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Crank seems to have got his legs back now.

Kelly shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Crank napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Crank is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Kelly takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Kelly lands a nice short elbow.
Crank has hold of Kelly's hands but Kelly slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Kelly closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Kelly seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

Crank is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Kelly pulls his head out easily.

Kelly is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Crank doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Kelly.

Kelly is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Edward Kelly showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!



Kelly feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Kelly has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Kelly is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Crank looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

Crank has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Kelly can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Kelly thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Kelly uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Crank.
Kelly fails with a takedown attempt.
As Kelly looks to move away, Crank throws a big counter combo bu Kelly just gets out of the way.

Kelly rushes Crank and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

And that's the end of the fight!
Edward Kelly comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Kelly winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
