Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
30 - 28 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Joshua Shouse ! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
13 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Phil Brooks! The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Stewart Dunkirk and George Francis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Shouse shoots in but no luck this time. Shouse closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage. Shouse escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Shouse drives through and clinches with Brooks against the cage.
Shouse ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Shouse no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard. Brooks pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Shouse is keeping the position for now. Brooks slips nicely into half guard. Shouse looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Brooks is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Shouse has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Brooks is working away from the top position though. Shouse on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Shouse tries to get out of the position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Shouse has his hands clasped together around Brooks's back. He's all about the action. Shouse wants to improve his position but Brooks is controlling well.
Brooks tries to pass to full mount but Shouse defends it. Shouse is looking for a sweep. Brooks is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Brooks moves into full mount! Shouse won't be happy about that! Shouse is in all sorts of trouble here.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Brooks is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Shouse can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Brooks seems to be looking to move to his opponent's back but Shouse is holding on tight.
Shouse slips a leg in and gets back to half guard. Brooks tries to pass to full mount but Shouse defends it. Brooks is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Shouse is looking to improve his position.
Brooks frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount. Shouse keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Shouse manages to regain half guard. Good work. Shouse knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Brooks on the ground. Brooks moves into full mount! Shouse won't be happy about that!
That's four minutes gone in the round. Brooks avoids the attempt from Shouse to control. Brooks wants to finish this one by submission but Shouse is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Brooks. Shouse regains half guard. Brooks seems like he's working for an arm triangle here. He's freed his trapped foot and he's rotating nicely. Shouse is in big trouble! He's tapping out! This one is aaaaaaaaaaaall over!
