And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Ricardo Richards!
The judges for this bout are David Hoff, Winston Alpacca and Michael Johnstone.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Washington shoots in but no luck this time.
Washington lands an overhand right.
Washington misses with a takedown attempt

and Richards counters by moving into the clinch.
Washington tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Richards smiles and moves away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Joshua Jr Washington. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Washington throws a nice looking combination but Richards bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
A little jabbing left from Richards on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
Washington shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Richards defends it nicely.
Richards wants to clinch up but Washington keeps it at a distance.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Washington lands a head shot.
Richards wants to clinch up but Washington keeps it at a distance.
Richards throws a head kick but Washington moves out of range.

and Washington connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

Richards throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Washington tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Richards defends well and Washington ends up having to push Richards into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Washington fails in his attempt to clinch.
Washington throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Richards's waist but Richards gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Washington off to one side.

Richards closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Washington tries to control but end up mounted... ooooh, that's bad.

Washington tries to lock up and control but Richards gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Richards can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Washington is looking to escape.

Richards has hold of Washington's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Washington manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Richards cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.



Richards has closed the distance and engaged Washington in a clinch.
Washington unloads a knee to the mid-section. Richards lets out a prehistoric sounding urrrrgh.

Washington's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Washington shoots for a takedown but Richards saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Joshua Jr Washington is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Richards swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

Washington keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Richards keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Richards changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.

Washington darts in looking for a takedown but Richards gets double underhooks and turns Washington into the cage.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Washington throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Richards's waist but Richards gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Washington off to one side.

Richards is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Richards postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Washington tries to close the distance and clinch but Richards swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
As Washington backs off Richards throws a huge counter combo but Washington manages to avoid it all.
Washington shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Richards sprawls well. Richards wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Washington gets slowly back to his feet.

and Richards counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Richards.

Come on Washington - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.

Washington pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Richards throws a body punch but Washington moves out of range.

Richards looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Richards looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Washington tries to roll over but Richards keeps him under control.
Richards is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Nice strikes from Richards there.
Richards with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Washington wants to improve his position but Richards is controlling well.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Richards is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Washington.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ricardo Richards showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! And we move into the final round!

Joshua Jr Washington seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Washington defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Richards.
Richards takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Washington clobbers Richards with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.


Richards is rocked!
Whack! Washington lands a heavy head kick that drops Richards. The ref tackles Washington to stop the fight - a great save by the referee because Richards was done.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:48 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Head Kick). Joshua Jr Washington!
