PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Max Williamson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Soren Sormsal (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Max Williamson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Soren Sormsal!
The judges for this bout are Roosa Järviläinen, Johanna Lukiainen and Tarja Halkonen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Williamson closes the distance but Sormsal moves to the side

and Sormsal counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Sormsal.
Williamson thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
Sormsal controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Williamson working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Sormsal doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Sormsal manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Sormsal slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

It looks like Sormsal might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

Williamson is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Sormsal shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

Williamson is trying to get back to full guard.
Williamson wants to control but Sormsal is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Sormsal wants to pass to mount but Williamson is defending the position.
Sormsal working over Williamson with some ground and pound. Williamson looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Well, if Sormsal is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Williamson is trying to maintain the position but Sormsal is very close to passing his half guard.

Williamson tries to get to full guard but Sormsal has control of the leg.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Sormsal closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Williamson's guard.

Williamson has his foot on Sormsal's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Sormsal works his way back into a safe position though.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Williamson drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Sormsal breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Sormsal drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Williamson really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Williamson wants to sweep but no luck.
Soren Sormsal has got the better of the ground game so far.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Sormsal avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Sormsal slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Sormsal's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Williamson controls Sormsal momentarily but Sormsal frees himself.

Williamson escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Sormsal gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Sormsal controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Sormsal bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Williamson trying his best to control but Sormsal has mounted him.

Williamson defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Sormsal.
The referee warns Williamson that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Sormsal controlling his opponent.

Sormsal working the ground and pound effectively.
Williamson wants to hold on but Sormsal pushes him away.
Sormsal takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Williamson manages to regain half guard. Good work.
Williamson wants to control but Sormsal passes into side.
Sormsal is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Williamson will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.

Sormsal tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Williamson is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Sormsal off and has taken his back!
Sormsal trying to control but he's just got himself in more trouble.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Sormsal wants to escape the position.
Sormsal is trying to get back to his feet but Williamson has full control of the position and if anything, Sormsal has just worked his way into a worse spot.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Soren Sormsal showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Sormsal has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Williamson trying to control here.
Williamson is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.
Sormsal is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Sormsal is looking for a kimura but Williamson is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Sormsal to get the leverage.

Williamson trying to hold on to Sormsal's head to control him but Sormsal postures up.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Sormsal in particular looking to stall.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Let's hope that Sormsal has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Williamson is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Sormsal's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.

Williamson is striking from the bottom but he's now found himself mounted! Oh dear - not enough focus on defense there.
Sormsal with shots to the head and body - Williamson looks very uncomfortable down there.

Williamson is desperately trying to improve his position but Sormsal has a good base and remains in mount.

Williamson is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Sormsal is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Williamson is defending well though. Sormsal let's go of the attempt for now.

And that's the end of the fight!
Soren Sormsal comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Sormsal has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
