Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Kaz Yago (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jarik Belson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Kaz Yago!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jarik Belson!
The judges for this bout are , Jack Bonds and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Yago misses with a wild body shot.
Belson steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Yago.
Yago throws a shot from downtown. Belson moves away and avoids it.
Kaz Yago seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Belson moves out of range of the strikes.
Belson drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Yago defends it well.
Yago on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
Yago fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Belson's jab looks to have found its range, popping Yago under the eye.
Yago throws a jab but it's blocked by Belson.
Yago looks to score with a jab to the body but Belson is just out of range.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Belson uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Yago.
Yago is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Belson.

Yago is looking for the choke from the back position but Belson is controlling his hands well.

We've been hearing good reports from Yago's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

Belson stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Yago swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Belson throws an elbow that misses. Yago uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Belson's guard. Nice move by Yago!

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Yago might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Yago stands up and waves to Belson to follow him.

Yago misses with a double jab.
Belson has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Yago is landing a low percentage of strikes.
Belson connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Yago's hands.

Belson shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Yago's guard.

Belson is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Yago doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Belson.

That was a close round but I would say that Kaz Yago will probably get the nod.
That's time! Yago's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Belson looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Yago is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Belson pulls his head out easily.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Belson is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Yago sees it coming and defends easily.

Belson is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Yago is just riding it out for now. Belson eventually gives up the hold.
Belson wants to control but Yago is keeping him busy.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Yago moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Yago controls Belson momentarily but Belson frees himself.

Yago escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Belson gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Belson got a little sloppy there for a moment and Yago has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Belson has managed to get both his arms back between Yago's legs - danger averted.

Yago escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Belson gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jarik Belson showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! And we move into the final round!


Yago cracks Belson with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
Yago throws a right and a left that both miss.
Yago looks to land a left hand but Belson moved out of range nicely.
Yago misses with a hook. Belson ducked under it nicely.
Yago misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Belson.
Yago looks to score with a jab to the body but Belson is just out of range.
And Belson tries to counter it with a takedown but Yago pushes his down on his head and steps out.

Belson is looking for a kimura but Yago is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Belson to get the leverage.

Belson has control of Yago's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Yago regains control of the situation pretty easily.

Yago is desperately trying to improve his position but Belson has a good base and remains in mount.
Yago wants to hold on but Belson pushes him away.

Belson swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Yago is now in Belson's guard. A big mistake from Belson there, giving up the dominant position!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Yago wants to pass the guard but Belson is keeping the position.
