Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Lynwood Fischer! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Travis Cartridge! The judges for this bout are Johanna Lukiainen, Tarja Halkonen and Ben Zyskovitsi.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Cartridge gets in close and instigates a clinch. Fischer really is a fat lump. Cartridge is trying to push Fischer away but Fischer has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere. Fischer tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Cartridge avoids it. Cartridge digs a right hand underneath Fischer's ribcage. Fischer let out a lung full of air as it connected. Still in the clinch, Cartridge scores with a nice short uppercut. Cartridge has Fischer pushed against the cage. Cartridge manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Cartridge working some nice short punches in the clinch.
It looks like Lynwood Fischer has been cut.
That's one minute gone in the round. Cartridge can't break the clinch.
Cartridge pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Fischer looks to score with a jab to the body but Cartridge is just out of range. Cartridge throws a 1-2 combo that connects squarely on Fischer's jaw, knocking him onto his back! Cartridge dives in looking to finish as Fischer flails his arms in a desperate attempt to block Cartridge's strikes! Cartridge is raining down hammerfists and the ref stops it! Fischer's desperate flailing just didn't constitute intelligent defence. Some people will probably question the ref's decision but Fischer was definitely hurt and the ref saved him from taking unnecessary punishment. A fighter's safety is paramount in this sport.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:40 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Travis Cartridge!
