PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Mason Burton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lucas Mitchel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Lucas Mitchel looks lathargic as he enters the arena. Wake up son, you're about to have a fight!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Mason Burton!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Lucas Mitchel!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Timothy Bukovac and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Burton throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
Burton fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Mitchel avoids it really well and circles away.
Crunch! Mitchel slams his shin into Burton's torso.
Burton avoids a low kick by using good footwork.
As Mitchel backs away, Burton returns fire with a leg kick that just misses.
Burton avoids a punch combination nicely.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mitchel tries to clinch up.

Burton feints and as Mitchel raises his hands in defense, Burton changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Burton working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

Mitchel wants to get back to his feet but Burton is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Burton might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Mitchel is looking to stand back up but Burton counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Mitchel.
Burton could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Burton takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Burton lands a nice short elbow.
Burton looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Mitchel with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Mitchel really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Burton. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Burton is looking for a kimura but Mitchel is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Burton to get the leverage.
Burton working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Mitchel shoots in for a takedown but Burton shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Mitchel got a little sloppy there for a moment and Burton has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Mitchel has managed to get both his arms back between Burton's legs - danger averted.

Burton has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Mason Burton overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Burton is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Burton shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Burton was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Burton fails with the takedown.
Mitchel looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Burton is fending him off so far but Mitchel persists. Nope, Burton circles away and we're back to standing.
Burton closes the distance and clinches up with Mitchel, looking for a takedown. Burton pushes Mitchel against the cage but Mitchel circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Mitchel stuffs the takedown attempt from Burton. Burton gets slowly back to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mason Burton. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Mitchel tries to close the distance and clinch but Burton swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Burton looked to counter that last move with a leg kick but didn't pull the trigger.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mitchel leaves Burton with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Mitchel thinks about the counter body kick.
Mitchel takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Mitchel tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Burton paws at him with a jab and circles away.

and Burton counters by moving into the clinch.

Burton wants to break the clinch but can't.
Burton is trying to push Mitchel away but Mitchel has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.

Burton pulls guard effortlessly.

Burton looking for a triangle here. Mitchel is fighting it but it looks tight! Burton pulls the arm across and this one won't last much longer! Nope, Mitchel is tapping out - this one is all over!
