Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jeje Mon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mikel Mellis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jeje Mon has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jeje Mon!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Mikel Mellis!
The judges for this bout are Emerson Jorge, Daniel Cesar and Luis Engracia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Mon drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Mellis sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Mon tries to pass to full mount but Mellis defends it.

Mellis looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
Mon is figuring out what he wants to do next.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mon has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Mellis manages to create a bit of space in order to work his way back to his feet. Mon keeps hold of his opponent and drives him back against the cage.
Mellis scores with an uppercut up the middle.

Mon is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Mellis is defending well.

Mellis throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Mon seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance.

Mon dives in and scores a takedown into Mellis's guard.
Mellis is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Mon wants to get up but he can't break Mellis's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Mellis tries to land a sweep but no joy.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Mellis moves in looking to clinch but Mon pushes him off.

Mon changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.

Mon stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Mellis swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Mellis throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
Mon wants to get up but he can't break Mellis's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Mellis can do anything to dispel that myth.
Mellis is looking to control Mon's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Mellis avoid being mounted?

Mon is trying to maintain a safe position but Mellis gets an underhook and turns Mon into the cage.
Mellis gets through Mon's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.

Mon tries to pull guard but Mellis holds him up against the cage and eventually Mon drops back down to his feet.
Mon has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Mellis is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Mellis continues to stall. The referee tells him to work or he's going to break them up.
Mon drops down looking for an ankle pick but Mellis pulls his leg out and moves away.

Mellis is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Mon scrambles, trying to get to his feet, but Mellis manages to mount him!
Mon wants to control but Mellis is having none of it.

Mon knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Mellis on the ground.

Mellis throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Mon because Mellis loaded up on that one.

Mikel Mellis showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Mon tries to clinch but Mellis is having none of it.
Mellis unleashes a big counter combination but Mon bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.
Mellis darts in looking for a takedown but Mon gets double underhooks and turns Mellis into the cage.
Mellis tries to close the distance and clinch up but Mon swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Mellis misses with a hook. Mon ducked under it nicely.

Mellis shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Mon sprawls well. Mon wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Mellis gets slowly back to his feet.

Mellis moves in looking to clinch but Mon pushes him off.

Mellis shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Mon as he jumps to the side.

Mon looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Mellis with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
