PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Mr Hands (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rick Duphus (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rick Duphus told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mr Hands!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Rick Duphus!
The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, George Francis and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Duphus gets tackled into the cage by Hands. Hands maintains the clinch.
Duphus wants to break the clinch but can't.

Hands pulls guard.
Hands wants to sweep but no luck.
Hands wants to stand up but Duphus is controlling him.
Hands trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.
Hands looking to hit a scissor sweep but Duphus is one step ahead there.
Hands keeping moving, preventing Duphus from controlling successfully.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hands pulls Duphus in to control the position.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Hands has his foot on Duphus's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Duphus works his way back into a safe position though.
Hands keeping moving, preventing Duphus from controlling successfully.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Hands darts in and clinches Duphus up against the cage.

Hands jumps guard.
Duphus stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Hands swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Hands looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Hands pulls Duphus in to control the position.
Hands has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Hands tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Hands wants to get back to his feet but Duphus is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Duphus accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Hands circles away from the clinch attempt

and Hands counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Hands is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Hands's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Hands has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Hands stays in close to Duphus's body and controls the position.
Hands stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Duphus swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Duphus should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Hands looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Duphus wants to stand but Hands is controlling the position.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Hands feints and as Duphus raises his hands in defense, Hands changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Hands controls from within his opponent's guard.
Hands scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Duphus keeping full guard, as Hands tries to pass.
Hands makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mr Hands dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!



Hands has Duphus up against the cage in a clinch.
Duphus fails to pull guard.

Hands has picked Duphus up - he's going for a ride! Hands dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
Hands is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Hands wants to pass to mount but Duphus is defending the position.
Still in half guard, Hands seems content to control.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hands tries to stand but can't do so whilst Duphus controls his leg.
Hands knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Duphus on the ground.
Hands is controlling the pace.

Hands is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Hands content to control rather than advance.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Hands closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Duphus did well to prevent Hands getting side control.
Hands seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Duphus wants to control but Hands passes into side.
Duphus seems a little lost for a moment, as Hands dominates the positioning.
Hands creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Hands wants to stand but Duphus has his arm trapped.
Hands moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.

Duphus taking a bit of punishment here - Hands scoring with strikes.
Hands tries to advance to mount but can't.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
Hands tries to advance to mount but Duphus denies him.

Hands wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Duphus, who protects the arm well.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Hands tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.
Hands controls the position from side control.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Hands on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Duphus. Duphus obviously looking to wear him down.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mr Hands dominated that second round.
That's time! Hands's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!



Hands drives through with a takedown into guard.
Hands passes into half guard.
Hands working the head and body with strikes.
Duphus is trying to get back to full guard.
Hands is nestled in close to Duphus, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Hands wants to pass the guard but Duphus is defending well.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hands is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Duphus taking some punishment here, with Hands in his half guard.

Duphus on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.


Duphus is rocked!
Hands lands strikes from half guard.
Duphus is still in real trouble! Can Hands finish him?

Hands is working for a kimura but Duphus is defending it quite comfortably.
Duphus is looking to improve his position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hands perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Hands is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Duphus takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Hands lands a nice short elbow.
Still in half guard, Hands seems content to control.
Hands lands a big elbow - Duphus is out of it! He's waving his arms around but his eyes are closed and he's not intelligently defending himself - the ref has no choice but to jump in and stop the fight! This one is in the books! A TKO win for Hands!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:51 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Mr Hands!
An out of breath Mr Hands thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
