Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Burt Watson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rick Duphus (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys are coming into the fight with injuries so let's see if that has a bearing on the fight. Burt Watson could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Rick Duphus's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Burt Watson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Rick Duphus!
The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Stewart Dunkirk and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Watson fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Duphus sprawls well initially but Watson persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Duphus should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Watson seems to be working for a kimura but Duphus defends the submission attempt.
Watson takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Duphus is fighting off a takedown attempt but Watson is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Duphus to the mat. Duphus regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

Watson knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Duphus on the ground.
