Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Darryl Higgins (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Cody Ryan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 1, fighting out of New York, Darryl Higgins!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Cody Ryan!
The judges for this bout are Russell Pearce, Jonathan Paton and John Roberts.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A low kick from Ryan is predictable there

and Higgins counters by moving into the clinch.
Higgins being controlled against the cage.

Ryan breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Ryan decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Higgins is staying active underneath Ryan, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Ryan is looking to stand up but he'll have to free his leg first. Instead, Higgins manages to get to full guard.
Ryan wants to control from the top but Higgins keeps moving.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Higgins is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Ryan is controlling him.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Ryan throws a sloppy strike from the bottom. He's now off balance and Higgins manages to pass to side control.

Higgins has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Higgins throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.

That was a close round but I would say that Darryl Higgins will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Higgins is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Ryan lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Higgins backwards.
Ryan has Higgins pressed against the cage, preventing Higgins from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Higgins has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.

Ryan ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Ryan no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Ryan looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Higgins has picked Ryan up and slammed him! Ryan can't keep hold of the triangle and Higgins manages to pass to side control!

Higgins takes a little break here. Ryan wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.

Ryan is looking to get back to his feet here but Higgins is keeping cool and he's managed to take Ryan's back.
Ryan really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Higgins. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Higgins is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Ryan is defending well though. Higgins let's go of the attempt for now.

Higgins will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Ryan is trying to get back to his feet. He's worked up on to his knees and now he's on his feet with his head on the canvas, trying to shake Higgins off. It looks like it's working - Higgins slides off, much to his dismay, and we're back to standing! Ryan displaying calm under pressure there.

Ryan decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Ryan wants to take a breather but Higgins is having none of it.

Ryan isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Higgins stacks Ryan on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Higgins!

Darryl Higgins is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Higgins is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Ryan is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Higgins, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
