PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Zachary Sharpe (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Munir Hadid (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Zachary Sharpe!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Munir Hadid!
The judges for this bout are Russell Pearce, Reed Andrews and Eddie Farnsworth.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sharpe fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Hadid throws an overhand right that lands on Sharpe's shoulder, as Sharpe tries to avoid the shot.
And Sharpe counters with a quick kick to the body but Hadid blocks it.
Sharpe dives in and grabs Hadid's left leg, looking for a takedown. Hadid pushes down on Sharpe's head and hops out.

Hadid moves into the clinch.
A frustrated look appears on Hadid's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Sharpe drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Zachary Sharpe. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Hadid tightens his grip and picks Sharpe up, before dumping him to the ground. Sharpe manages to land in guard.
Hadid passes Sharpe's left leg - he's now in half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Sharpe is trying to get back to full guard.

Hadid wants to stand but Sharpe has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Sharpe really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Sharpe slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Hadid postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Hadid passes into half guard under a barage of strikes.
Hadid slows the pace down in half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Hadid looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Sharpe trying to control from the bottom.
Hadid is controlling the pace.
Hadid passes to side control.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Sharpe manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Well, if Hadid is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Hadid wants to free his trapped foot but Sharpe is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Hadid is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Sharpe wants to improve his position but Hadid is controlling well.
Hadid controlling the pace.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
It looks like Hadid is going to stand back up.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Sharpe fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Munir Hadid seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Hadid throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Sharpe was covering up waiting for the punch and Hadid finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Hadid is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Munir Hadid dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Sharpe tries to clinch but Hadid moves out of range.

Hadid instigates a clinch.

Hadid pulls guard.
Hadid seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Munir Hadid has got the better of the ground game so far.
Sharpe with a nice head shot there.

Sharpe got a little sloppy there for a moment and Hadid has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Sharpe has managed to get both his arms back between Hadid's legs - danger averted.
Sharpe will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Sharpe trying to control the position from guard on top but Hadid is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Hadid looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Hadid lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hadid trying to control but Sharpe is working from the bottom.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Hadid has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Sharpe is proving hard to escape from.
Hadid passes into half guard under a barage of strikes.
Sharpe is looking to improve his position.
It looks like Hadid is going to stand back up.
Hadid is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Hadid wants to stand up but Sharpe is controlling the position.

Hadid gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Sharpe wants to take the fight to the mat but Hadid manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.

Hadid's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Hadid would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Hadid connects with a couple of short punches.

Hadid is working Sharpe over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Hadid looking to score a takedown here. Sharpe is defending well but Hadid drives through and ends up in Sharpe's guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Munir Hadid showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!

Hadid has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Sharpe is trying to keep an underhook but Hadid manages to get the takedown into half guard.
Ground and pound from Hadid.

Hadid is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!

Sharpe tries to hold on but Hadid pushes him away.

Sharpe is trying to stand.
Hadid looking to finish Sharpe with some ground and pound. This is bad for Sharpe!


Sharpe is rocked!
Hadid has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Hadid lands a big shot to the head and Sharpe winces in pain. He's tapped out due to strikes!
