PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Nikolai Peterson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ali Pasha (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Peterson comes to the cage accompanied by Blind Eye Halo. Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 12 - 1, fighting out of St Petersburg, Nikolai Peterson !
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ali Pasha!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Bishop, William Gold and Colin Fotheringham.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Peterson uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Pasha.
Peterson just misses with a punch to the body.
Nikolai Peterson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Pasha throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Peterson counters with a lovely shot to the body.
Peterson has his takedown stuffed
and Pasha counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Pasha scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.

Peterson manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Pasha on his heels. He'll look to pass Pasha's guard now, I'm sure.
Pasha wants to sweep here but Peterson controlling him for the moment.

Pasha is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Peterson is looking to pass into half guard but Pasha pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Pasha is in guard.

Peterson is trying to keep Pasha in close.

Pasha got a little sloppy there for a moment and Peterson has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Pasha has managed to get both his arms back between Peterson 's legs - danger averted.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Pasha trying to control the position from guard on top but Peterson is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Peterson has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Pasha can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Pasha wants to control from the top but Peterson keeps moving.
Peterson manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Pasha manages to get himself to full guard.

Peterson postures up.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Pasha has his foot on Peterson 's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Peterson works his way back into a safe position though.
Peterson wants to control from the top but Pasha keeps moving.
Pasha looking to hit a scissor sweep but Peterson is one step ahead there.

Pasha working for submissions but it's allowed Peterson to get to half guard.
Pasha is trying to get back to full guard.

Pasha trying to hold on to Peterson 's head to control him but Peterson postures up.
Pasha is trying to control but Peterson manages to pass to mount!

Peterson trying to control but he's not successful this time.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Pasha is looking to improve his position but Peterson isn't that keen on the idea.
Pasha is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Peterson can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Pasha is looking to escape.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Nikolai Peterson dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Pasha lands a head shot.
Peterson fails with a takedown attempt.
Pasha stuns Peterson with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.

Peterson closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Pasha is trying to get back to half guard.
Pasha manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Pasha won't allow Peterson to pass to mount.
Peterson wants to lay and pray for a moment but Pasha keeps working.
Peterson prevents Pasha from improving his position.

Peterson is looking to advance position but Pasha won't allow it.
Pasha works his way to full guard. Good work.
Pasha is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Peterson works a leg free and moves into half guard.

Peterson is looking for a kimura but Pasha is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Peterson to get the leverage.
Pasha is trying to get back to full guard.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Peterson seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Pasha does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Peterson wants to work for an arm triangle but Pasha is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Pasha tries to roll over but Peterson keeps him under control.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Nikolai Peterson overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Peterson moves nicely into side control.

Peterson is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Pasha knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Peterson moves out of range as Pasha strikes.

Pasha scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Peterson shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Pasha defends it nicely.

Peterson displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Pasha throws out the jab.
Pasha loads up on a big right hand but Peterson slips the punch.

Pasha looks to score with a jab to the body but Peterson is just out of range.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Pasha tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Peterson was well out of range. Poor timing from Pasha.
Pasha takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
Pasha changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Peterson takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ali Pasha showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Pasha looks to land a body kick but Peterson moved away.
Pasha fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.

Nice uppercut lands for Pasha. That snapped Peterson 's head back.
Pasha connects with a body shot that sends Peterson 's belly button to the back.
Peterson looks for a takedown but Pasha sprawls well.
Pasha swings and misses with a hook to the body.
The fighters circle momentarily. Peterson darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Peterson is defended easily by Pasha.

Pasha closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
Pasha throws a nice outside leg kick.
Peterson shoots for a double leg takedown but Pasha sprawls well. He's pushed Peterson 's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Pasha replies with a solid counter kick to the body but Peterson blocks it well.
Pasha digs a good body shot into Peterson 's ribs.
Pasha throws a hook to the side of Peterson 's head but Peterson sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Peterson misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Pasha catches Peterson with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
Peterson fails to land the takedown.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Peterson feints and then cracks Pasha's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Pasha down.

And that's the end of the fight!
Ali Pasha comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Pasha has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
