PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Chris Davison (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Karl Popper (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Karl Popper will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Chris Davison!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Karl Popper!
The judges for this bout are Paul Aken, Saam Ante and Nard Betker.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Popper is looking to score with low kicks.
Davison has a nice red mark on his side after a thudding body kick by Popper.
Davison throws a lazy right hand but Popper sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Popper has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Davison is landing a low percentage of strikes.
An inside leg kick lands from Popper.
Davison avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Popper explodes with a nice body kick and back out of range. Nice work.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Popper.
Popper fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Davison checks it well.
Davison feinted with a counter takedown.
Popper cracks Davison with an open hand slap.
Popper is looking to clinch.
Davison ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Popper moves away.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Davison tries to score with some ground and pound. Popper controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
Davison misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
We've been hearing good reports from Davison's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.
Davison has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Popper tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Davison wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Davison wants to pass to mount but Popper is defending the position.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Davison is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Popper doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Davison.

Popper tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Popper lunges at Davison with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Davison's hand.

Popper feints and then cracks Davison's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Davison down.

It seemed like Popper was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.

That was a close second round but I would say that Chris Davison will probably get the nod.

Popper is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Popper is rocked!
Davison lands a big elbow from half guard. That looks like it's hurt Popper quite badly. Popper pulls Davison in close trying to recover. Davison postures up and lands two really hard shots that put Popper on queer street! The ref takes a look and decides to call an end to the fight! Possibly an early stoppage but Popper doesn't seem to be complaining too much.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:59 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Chris Davison!
Chris Davison was full of energy after the big win and talked about how he thinks he can do big things in this sport. The crowd were appreciative of his determination to succeed.
