PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mohamed Mullen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Adam Aldhest (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Mohamed Mullen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Adam Aldhest!
The judges for this bout are Johanna Lukiainen, Arvi Lind and Matti Vanhoillinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Aldhest moves into range and clinches up with Mullen.
Mullen has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Mullen is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.
Mullen dictating the pace here, as the fighters clinch against the cage.
Aldhest scores a nice knee to the body.

Aldhest pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Mullen circles away from the clinch attempt.
Aldhest tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Mullen manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Aldhest misses with a wild body shot.
Mullen really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Aldhest has managed to clinch.
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.
Aldhest tries a knee to the head but Mullen blocks it.
Mullen holding his opponent close, against the cage.

Mullen controlling the action here for a moment.
Aldhest manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.
Mullen is trying to break the clinch but Aldhest has him pressed against the cage.
Aldhest has Mullen pressed against the cage, preventing Mullen from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

Aldhest escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Mullen has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Aldhest.
Aldhest misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Aldhest.
Aldhest wants to stand but Mullen has his arm trapped.
Aldhest misses with the ground and pound.

Aldhest stands up and we're back to a striking position.

Mullen looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Mullen looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Aldhest with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Aldhest avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Mullen.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Aldhest is looking for a sweep. Mullen is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Mullen missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Aldhest tries to roll over but Mullen keeps him under control.
Aldhest trying to control here.
Mullen working the head and body with strikes.
Aldhest keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

Mullen is working for a submission of some sort.
Mullen sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Aldhest defending well though.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Mullen throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Aldhest is trying to maintain the position but Mullen is very close to passing his half guard.
Mullen scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Mullen thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Aldhest's head.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Mullen connects with a nice short shot to Aldhest's temple.
Mullen throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Mullen thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Aldhest's head.

Mullen is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Aldhest is looking to improve his position.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Adam Aldhest will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Mullen uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Aldhest.

Aldhest shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Mullen's guard.
Mullen wants to stand and escape but Aldhest is having none of it.
Mullen controlling Aldhest's posture.
Aldhest wants to pass the guard but Mullen is keeping the position.
Aldhest throwing strikes but missing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mullen wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Mullen has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Aldhest wants to stand but Mullen has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Mullen is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Aldhest's half guard.
Aldhest controlling the position well.
Mullen seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Aldhest has one foot on Mullen's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
Aldhest misses with a double jab.
Mullen goes for a double leg but Aldhest avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Aldhest continues to drive forward.

Aldhest darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Mullen looking for submissions off his back.
Aldhest throws a big elbow that misses, also allowing Mullen to regain full guard.
Mullen throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
Mullen is trying to keep Aldhest in close.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Mullen has control of Aldhest's left arm, preventing Aldhest from doing any damage.
Mullen will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Mullen is looking for a triangle but Aldhest pushes his legs off easily.

Aldhest got a little sloppy there for a moment and Mullen has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Aldhest has managed to get both his arms back between Mullen's legs - danger averted.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Aldhest connects with a solid leg kick.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Aldhest cracks the inside of Mullen's front leg.
Mullen misses with a hook to the body

and Aldhest counters with a crisp one two that drops Mullen! Aldhest thinks about following him to the mat for a moment but instead steps back and waves Mullen to his feet! Mullen is in big trouble!


Mullen is rocked!

Aldhest shoots in for a takedown. SLAM! Brutal! Mullen is out cold and this one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:24 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Slam). Adam Aldhest!
