Acevedo shoots in looking for a takedown but Hagan manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Acevedo's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. Hagan drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Acevedo defends it well. Hagan looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight! Hagan is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Acevedo.
It looks like Jim Hagan has been cut. Nice cross by Acevedo. Acevedo could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. Acevedo shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Hagan has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat. No luck for Acevedo with that takedown attempt. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ike Acevedo. That's going to take a lot out of him. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Acevedo falls off balance throwing a combination
and Hagan decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Acevedo's guard. Acevedo has thrown up a leg looking for a triangle. Hagan doesn't defend quickly enough and Acevedo has managed to lock this one up! Can Hagan escape?! NO! He's tapping out! Damn, that was a quick submission - congrats to Acevedo on a fantastic submission victory.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:56 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Ike Acevedo!
