PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Wyatt Rojas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jackie Grant (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Grant has chosen Paralyzer as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Wyatt Rojas!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jackie Grant!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Frank Antenori and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.

Rojas changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Grant looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Grant pushes Rojas away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Rojas gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
Rojas with the ground and pound but Grant regains half guard under the barage of strikes.
Rojas landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Grant is trying to stand back up but Rojas is controlling him
Rojas looks to land a strike but Grant avoids it nicely and regains full guard.
Rojas prevents Grant from getting back to his feet.
Rojas will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Rojas throws a strike but Grant rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Grant is looking to stand up but Rojas won't let him.
Rojas is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Grant wanted to stand there but Rojas had control of the position.

Grant passes into half guard under a barage of strikes.
Grant moves into side control, avoiding the strikes from Rojas.
Rojas tries to control the position but he's not in luck - Grant easily slips into full mount!

Grant stands up from the dominant position, so we're back on the feet.

Rojas closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Grant's guard.

Rojas throwing strikes from guard but Grant blocks nicely.
Rojas throws an elbow that misses. Grant uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Rojas's guard. Nice move by Grant!

Rojas looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Grant gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Rojas shoots for a takedown but Grant saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Rojas fails with the takedown.
Grant is looking for the big counter here.
Rojas shoots in and drives through. Grant sprawls well.

Grant closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Grant lands in his opponent's guard.
Rojas is breathing heavily.
Rojas is looking to sweep but instead, Grant has passed into half guard.

Grant wants to stand but Rojas has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.
Rojas tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.
Rojas is looking to get back to is feet but Grant passes into side control.
Rojas is trying to work for a sweep but Grant has mounted him!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Rojas is desperately trying to improve his position but Grant has a good base and remains in mount.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Grant sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Rojas's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Grant throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Grant has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Grant tries a head kick but it misses.
Rojas tries to counter with a takedown but Grant is quick to defend against it.
Rojas is trying hard to land a takedown here. Grant sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Rojas fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Grant lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Grant throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Rojas counters by clinching up.

Rojas content to slow the pace in the clinch.
Rojas presses Grant against the cage and delivers a mid-strength body shot.
Rojas with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.

Rojas manages to break the clinch.
Grant throws a combination that misses

and Rojas counters by moving into the clinch.
Grant can't break the clinch.
A frustrated look appears on Grant's face as he tries to break the clinch.
A nice right hand lands inside from Rojas.
Grant stops a takedown attempt from Rojas.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Wyatt Rojas. That's going to take a lot out of him.

The fighters are starting to get sweaty, which will make takedowns a bit more tricky.
Rojas jumps guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Rojas wants to improve his position but instead Grant has moved into half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Grant tries to stand but can't do so whilst Rojas controls his leg.
Rojas flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
Rojas missing with punches from the bottom.

Grant stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.
Grant throws a sloppy head kick and Rojas moves out of range easily.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Grant tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Rojas went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.
Rojas tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Grant defends well and Rojas ends up having to push Grant into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
The fighters circle, before Grant throws a beautiful high kick that crashes into Rojas's neck, sending him stumbling to the floor! Grant lands more strikes and forces a referee stoppage! That one ended in an instant!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:35 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Kick & Punches). Jackie Grant!
In his post fight interview, Jackie Grant started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
