PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between John West (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Eduardo Lins (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Eduardo Lins will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, John West!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Eduardo Lins!
The judges for this bout are Seu Braga, Leandro Rodrigues and Felipe Paraventi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
West with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Lins to score with a decent uppercut.
Lins fakes the leg kick and cracks West in the body.
Lins ducks down and throws a hook to the body but West moves away.
Lins tries to clinch but West is having none of it.
Lins misses with a takedown

and West moves into the clinch.

Lins pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Lins shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says West as he avoids it easily.

John West has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Eduardo Lins.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Lins throws a combination but it was largely blocked by West.
Lins closes the distance and clinches up with West, looking for a takedown. Lins pushes West against the cage but West circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

West could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Lins tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but West defends well and Lins ends up having to push West into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

West shoots in looking for a takedown. Lins tries to sprawl out of it but West keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Lins manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Lins wants to sweep here but West controlling him for the moment.
West is in close to Lins's body, working some short punches and elbows.
West throws an elbow that misses. Lins uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in West's guard. Nice move by Lins!

Lins stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. West swivels though and keeps the full guard.
West wants to stand up but Lins is controlling him.

Lins gets to his feet - West follows without any prompting.
West fails with the takedown
and Lins counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps West thinking.
West shoots in for a takedown but Lins shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
West shoots in for a double leg but Lins sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Lins raises up his leg as if looking to counter with a high kick.

That was a close second round but I would say that John West will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!

West decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

West is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Lins sees it coming and defends easily.
West looks to score some points with some ground and pound.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for West, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
