Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
33 - 18 - 1, fighting out of London, Paul Poulter! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Bon Jonson! The judges for this bout are Richard Clark, Daniel Bishop and Donald Grub.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Jonson throws out a token jab with nothing on it. Jonson tries to close the distance and clinch but Poulter swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Poulter attempts a counter takedown but Jonson avoids it well and moves away. Poulter swats away the attempt to clinch by Jonson. Jonson thows a left - swing and a miss! Poulter shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Jonson as he jumps to the side. Jonson tries a head kick but it misses.
Poulter changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit. Poulter looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
Jonson throws a hook to the side of Poulter's head but Poulter sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully. Poulter pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Jonson tries to close the distance and clinch up but Poulter swats him away and circles back towards the center. Poulter keeps the fight on the outside. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Jonson misses with a looping left. enabling Poulter to counter with a crisp jab. Poulter looks to land a combination but Jonson avoids it well. Jonson swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
That's one minute gone in the round. Poulter plants his feet and lands a nice head kick!
It looks like Bon Jonson has been cut. Poulter digs a good body shot into Jonson's ribs. Poulter uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Jonson. Poulter connects with the punch. Jonson takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor. Jonson tries to clinch there but Poulter circles away.
Poulter tries to counter with a takedown but Jonson is quick to defend against it. Poulter scores with a jab to the body. Poulter uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook. Jonson tries to clinch but Poulter is having none of it. A little feinted left hand from Poulter on the counter but he doesn't commit to it. Jonson thumps Poulter with a low kick. Jonson wants to clinch up but Poulter keeps it at a distance. Jonson jabbing away but nothing is landing. Jonson tries to clinch up but Poulter circles away and keeps his distance. Poulter attempts a counter takedown but Jonson avoids it well and moves away. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. The fighters circle momentarily. Poulter darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch. Poulter lands a nice shot to the body.
Bon Jonson is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Poulter lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head. Poulter dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Jonson. That did some damage! Jonson is really struggling to land any decent head shots against his taller opponent.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Jonson blocks a head kick by Poulter.
Poulter slips under a jab. Poulter throws a sloppy head kick and Jonson moves out of range easily. Jonson lands an overhand right. Jonson lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.

Poulter ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent. Jab by Poulter. Jonson wants to clinch and Poulter counters with a nice uppercut. Poulter turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick. Jonson has worked on his takedown defense in the runup to this fight and it is paying off so far. Poulter scores with a body shot.
Jonson is looking to clinch but Poulter is avoiding it.
Poulter throwing a counter right hand but Jonson manages to avoid it. Jonson lands a lovely overhand right. Jonson wants to clinch and Poulter counters with a straight right hand.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Jonson tries to close the distance and clinch up but Poulter swats him away and circles back towards the center. Jonson throws the left hand but Poulter avoids the punch easily. Poulter thuds his right hand into Jonson's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters. A right-left combo lands from Poulter. Jonson clinches. Poulter makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut. Poulter scores with a shoulder strike. Jonson tries a knee to the head but Poulter blocks it.
Poulter's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not. Poulter is trying to wear down his opponent with knees to the body. Poulter has Jonson pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Poulter pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Jonson tumbling to the mat - Poulter dives into Jonson's guard. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Poulter controlling from the top position.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Poulter drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Poulter jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Jonson working a defensive guard but Poulter manages to pass into side control anyway.
Jonson is trying to control Poulter's posture but Poulter avoids it. Poulter is working to tighten his grip on Jonson's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Jonson has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Poulter is really squeezing tight and eventually Jonson passes out! Poulter breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!
